London to Perth - Qantas' longest flight in business class

It’s the first scheduled direct non-stop service between the UK and Australia and when it launched Qantas hyped it up like nothing else. So now that it’s had a chance to settle what is this ultra-long-haul flight really like? And how does flying non-stop compare to the traditional one-stop services via the Gulf and Asian hubs? Join me to find out.

At just over 9,000 miles the London to Perth route is the 3rd longest flight in the world. What makes this one unique is that it links two previously unlinked continents – Europe and Australia. (I assume in a post-Brexit world the UK has not declared itself a separate continent yet!)

I fly from London to Perth in the comfort of Qantas business class on the 787. This business class flight review on the Qantas 787 covers the entire Qantas business class experience from the Qantas lounge at London Heathrow right through to the inflight service and landing at Perth Airport.

Here are the links to the videos I refer to the video:

Join me and we’ll experience it together.

Route: London (LHR) to Perth (PER)
Length: 9,025 miles, 16:12 hrs
Flight: QF10 Seat 7K
Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 registration VH-ZNE (June 2018)
When: 16 July 2019

Camera: Panasonic HC-VX1

Oh yes, Skippy! Was also a HUGE star here in Norway in the 70s. Still remember running inside whenever the iconic words rang out on the telly: "Skippy, Skippy, Skippy the bush kangaroo!" :)

Okay, this is one year later, Dennis, in early October 2020, after 8 months of non flying. I cannot help but notice how rightly positive this review is, like most, if not all your reviews. To fly is a positive experience, regardless of some of the shortfalls, as travelling is privilege and a joy which if shared with likeminded people is a delight. Note your videos with Jeb and the Wollongong medio Paul, which I reckon have the same message: enjoy while you can and thank the people who look after you in the air as they are working whilst you are not.

I’m from Perth (like if you are too!) I completely agree with Dennis, if you live on the west coast, it’s a no brainer, but if you’re from the east coast, It would make more sense to go via Singapore, Dubai, Doha or Bangkok as you have to change no matter what

Good morning Dennis,

No I wasn't brought up in Australia in the 70s and 80s I was brought up in the UK in the 70s and 80s, and sadly, I am all too familiar with Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. In fact when I am walking with my dogs that annoying earworm of the theme tune often comes into my head! Great video Dennis, keep them coming. I don't get a lot of chance to fly, so I have to enjoy the flights along with you.

Cheers, many thanks.

Just had to watch this as I so need a long haul flight fix. This is a great way to cover the distance. We had to be virtually dragged out as it was so comfortable!! Roll on 2022😷

Love your reviews, one of the best airline reviewers on youtube, very thorough (hand showing space beside seat, prefer warm nuts to canape etc) and clear. Love it!

American here. Looked up Skippy the Kangaroo. Did not disappoint, especially the fact he was so beloved in Norway that a chain of shopping centers(!) were named for him. For a kangaroo.

Skippy was big (for a Marsupial) in the UK too!
I seem to remember another kids' program about time stopping when somebody threw a Boomerang!

7 and half hours sleep on any flight is phenomenal. Tough to manage that even in first class.

I was brought up in the UK in the sixties and I remember Skippie. I like the way you touch the aircaft on the right of the door before you enter as a good luck token. I've been flying for over 50 years and I always do that. I was spotted once by a cabin steward who said " So that's your good luck charm then" I said yes, and it has a 100% success record so far.

For a 17 hour flight a double "Cheers! Here's to a great flight!" was definitely needed lol Awesome vid Dennis! I really want to try flying Qantas now. Especially for that coffee.
