Spot on. I'd add that the canopy of redwood forests are effective at blocking out sunlight from reaching forest floor. Moisture levels stay higher in the thatchy layer so to speak. Plus, the root systems are shallow, interlocked and hold a great deal of water.

We don't want to do prevention burns in redwood forests with good canopy cover, defeats the purpose mother nature already proved in maintaining herself.

The trees reseeding is an interesting point because I'd propose that in the healthy forest set-up, those seeds will never ever sprout, as the seeds are likely only meant for sprouting when a natural disaster strikes. I understand what you explained, but I am not so sure prematurely sprouting seeds from fire prevention projects is the way to go, but I am open to being further educated.

It always amazes me how little most people know about how Forest work. Fire is part of its cycle. We need to re think our Forest management. Thank you for sharing.
