“Take a deep breath and rethink…” Shashi Tharoor urges Canadian authorities amid diplomatic row

Amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the allegations leveled by PM Justin Trudeau of involvement of “Indian agents” in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on September 21, said that it is a very disappointing development.
Shashi Tharoor said, “It's a very disappointing development. I don't quite understand why the apparent need on Canada’s part to cater to a particular political lobby in that country has resulted in their publicly putting their entire relationship with India in peril. But we now must take steps to ensure that it doesn't deteriorate any further. They are an important trading partner... Now there are escalating threats against the safety and security of Indians- Hindu Indians. And I think that once Canada has unleashed this, they should be very conscious of the dangers they're provoking, including, importing a kind of extremism that doesn't exist in India anymore in Punjab, into their country instead, which is very, very unfortunate. So I would urge the Canadians to also take a deep breath and rethink what they're doing.”

Canada facts

Population 39 M/26 M. This is because 13 M have dual US citizenship and mostly live and die in the USA

Land area 10 to 15% larger than US but 80% frozen and mostly not liveable.

Totally/mostly dependent on US. 75% of its professionals work for US companies. 80% of population live within 150 miles of USA.

Floundering extractive economy. Canada produces natural gas, oil, coal, gold, iron ore, , etc. India does not need any of this

Makes US cars for US markets. India does not need any of that.

Aircraft components. These go into Boeing and Airbus aircrafts. The only area that needs fine tuning by 8ndia.

Otherwise India does not have much use for Canada.
