Climate Change Is Impacting Every Aspect of Modern Life, But the Press Fails to “Connect the Dots”

July is slated to become the hottest month in recorded history, as extreme weather fueled by global warming wreaks havoc across the globe, from extreme heat waves in Europe and the U.S. to deadly monsoon flooding in South Asia. Severe rains have killed at least 660 people across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan in a monsoon that is expected to continue throughout the week. A record heat wave is hitting Europe for the second time this summer, with Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam all at risk of hitting all-time high temperatures, and Spain facing the threat of severe fires. We speak with climate scientist Michael Mann, a distinguished professor and director of the Earth System Science Center at Penn State University, about the latest weather extremes across the globe and how the media can responsibly cover climate change.

Not connectig the dots is by design of course, its corporate media - that much is axiomatic at this point.

The probelm is, nobody listens to the canary in the mine shaft... or even 100 canaries. Then the men start to die and still, nobody listens. Because its too loud down there, and too dark for any of them to notice. The digging never stops.

Take a moment to appreciate that this may be the coolest summer you'll ever get again.

they are PAID to not connect the dots. "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!" - upton sinclair

Big Oil along with it’s connection with the petrodollar and it’s partner in crime the military industrial complex has a lot of influence on corporate media. So, lack of coverage is not surprising

almost 10 inches of rain in Central NJ this month. The monthly average for July is 5.07 inches. 3rd month this year with double the average rain for the month. Last year we had FIVE months with double the monthly average.

I think the extreme weather events are going to drive people to things like apps that will give you more accurate weather because they use weather stations closer to your location, they update the weather more often than you will get a weather report on most TV stations, and they give people a lot more information about the weather and how the forecast was generated for their location.

For example, I have this weather app on my phone called (somewhat ironically) Weather Underground. I first started getting my weather from them on the internet long before I had a smart phone but now I have their app. You can get specific weather by zip code or city and you can even get international weather (although it's not quite as good as the US weather, but I've only looked at weather in South America when it comes to international weather). I try to save power by opening the windows at night when it finally cools off (if that actually happens) and they give the most accurate temperature for the area so I can rely on it to let me know when I should open up the windows without risking it getting substantially hotter. Their forecasts are outstanding and almost always correct. My favorite thing is that they have this thing called the scientific discussion where they expound upon the forecast and tell you basically how they made their decision on what the forecast is and how confident they are in that forecast, along with information about local warnings and they even have weather specific to aviation on there. I have a quarter acre garden and so I need to know what the weather is pretty specifically if I want to make sure my plants are as healthy as they can be and I also ride a bicycle so it's nice to know what kind of weather is around so that I don't get caught in terrible weather on a bike. Importantly, they DO talk about climate change in the blogs that the meteorologists write and they make no small issue of it.

The bottom line is that TV weather isn't specific enough or available enough for a world that has all kinds of weird weather blow into one place and be absent not far away. A lot of these online sources for weather don't shy away from the fact that humans are causing the planet to warm and messing up our own eco system as a result.

The US is in a unique situation. Their currency (monetary system is the petro-dollar) The US economy is dependent on world oil sales. If world oil sales decrease, or go off the dollar, that threatens the US economy, and could drive inflation through the roof for them. It is a terrible devastating situation for a country to have its' currency tied to a green house gas producing resource. That is why the US is not walking the walk. They talk about climate change, but know that going off of their fossil fuel addiction would collapse their economy. The US monetary system will have to be re-engineered before they can actually make the change.

I was born too early to explore outer space.

I was born just in time to witness the end of modern civilization.

Hottest June? High of 107°F/42°C just 6 days ago Central N. U.S., a week straight of high heat. Personally, I say crank that mf up more!

I recognize global warming; but the issues of economic disparity in the US is at a breaking point. I know it's not much different globally. I refuse to accept 70yrs of austerity/poverty to maintain a 9%/yr. CO2 mitigation every year & with & for a 1% elite.

2100 goals mean nothing. I'd rather heat it up, force a pace of development by enabling the world to solve the crisis; maximize the global cognitive capacity on solving the issue because right now the majority are thinking about food & rent & healthcare & war & ad nauseum.

Studies show, even if every advanced economy were to cut CO2 emissions to zero today, it would have zero effect on a 2100 Apocalypse of some sort that's coming. Well that's 80 years from now; get back to me when it's 5-10 years because that's how the world fixes its problems.

So loosen restrictions within reason, balance the wealth gap within reason (ex., a $100+ Billionaire is a crime against humanity; a $Billionaire is as far as I'm concerned...). Simple Rawlsian market economies where people are enabled - put them in play; bring the estimated crisis point to 2050, 2040 even. The wealthy 1% are damn morons; they've devised this solution. Well, history has shown, it's the lesser, working folk that inevitably advance society. Einstein changed the paradigmatic view of physical science without any experimentation, just the famous "thought experiment" & 3 papers that went on & changed everything within a short window of time.

There are no Einstein's in with the elites; they don't fix the problem, they control people. The people can solve the problem; I won't participate in the current demands... And, frankly, that's a stalemate where time is melting away...literally. I can handle the heat. I'll take the satisfaction of watching the privileged sweat it out to our mutual end before I even consider adjusting my habits, before devoting my cognitive effort, only so they can have what they dare to deny everyone else.

This entire panic itself needs a paradigm shift. Screw mitigating CO2; that's weak and pathetic. If enabled, we can own CO2; adjust the levels to optimum at will. And we can do it in 5-10 years easily. Not only does this approach solve the problem, but it also debunks climate deniers, climate catastrophism driven by solar activity...& if it doesn't debunk, then we're not caught completely off guard to a secondary or tertiary crisis.

Yeah, so climate change...it's gonna suck in the near future...107°F w/100% humidity...that sucked. But I bet 115°F might a bit more. Oh! 125°F; yes please! A human being can technically survive an ambient temperature close to boiling if managed correctly...I can't wait for that one! And the sooner the better. If these clowns think their dreams of ditching the planet on a rocket to Mars is going to happen...nope. Cause right now, they got nothing; & the added sweat on my brow, I couldn't care less. In fact, I'm thinking about getting myself a charcoal grill...maybe just keeping them going, at the ready for when I need some food cooked & fast. I'll be doing my part...that's for goddamn sure.
