The fact that a freshly made map was out of date in 2 months is such a crazy concept for us, who were born in a much more "stable" times.

The fact that you can narrow the map that much is insane. Keep up the great content!

Venda (way up in the north of South Africa) is also visible on the map. Another one of those “independent countries”. Also notice how Bophutatswana is three patches all separated by South African territory, yet somehow supposedly an independent nation state.

Can you do the map Yakoo Warners uses in Nations of the world song?

Imagine spending all that time to make a map and then 2 months later you find out you gotta change it again

As a history and geography buff, this is like the brainrot subway surfer videos in perfect format for me.
Keep it up 👍

This analysis is based on the assumption that the map printers update their maps daily. Probably not. Most changes are probably only taken into account months later, as old "wrong" maps that have already been printed are not simply thrown away because of one or two tiny changes.

It’s incredible how much the world can change in just under two months.

What’s interesting is that if you follow the linked videos above the title, it brings you all the way back here

In Germany I remember a couple of those maps showing the Bantustans growing up. That was in the early 2000s

Wait you make this challenge easier by 1) organizing changes in the map by date 2) creating an interface with which you cross reference then it automatically does the process you do to come to an answer.

This could also be made into an interactive aspect where people suggest new changes in the map

I have heard about Transkei, and also about the neighbouring Ciskei because of an old german map I found in the house of my grandmother, but never about Bophu-Tatswana. Thank you for the information! ❤

I actually looked through an old social studies book from 1992. The USSR was still there. Friggin McGraw Hill.

Okay pretty impressive but when did the mapmaker finish thinking about designing it in their head and what were they wearing? 🤔

The Bantustans were a horrible crime. The populations were cordoned off behind a national border and told to fend for themselves with hardly any access to South African services.
