Today I start building the desk of my dreams: A "Franken-desk" of sorts, combining 5 individual desks with a 6th island desk in the middle. SO. MUCH. DESK.

Thanks for all the feedback on the desks. It was actually the guys at our local hardware store who recommended the toggle bolts after telling them exactly what I was doing and how much weight I'd be putting on the desks. Then again, maybe I should be listening to the internet experts.

To be safe, I'm going to install some table legs on the desks that I plan to put hefty weight on but I'm not worrying about it beyond that. Worst case scenario if the whole set comes crashing down taking loads of PC hardware with it, that video will get tons of views, I'll have the PC parts replaced for free, and I'll make additional revenue on the follow-up videos, covering the costs of new desks and drywall repair which is already a tax write off. At the end of the day it's a stupid risk that my stupid privileged ass can afford to take. Stay tuned for the epic disaster video 😱

Wow remember when Lyle watched the verge and said you like can build it in mid air, and now it came true 😂

These tables are gonna end up on the floor.

Hey Kyle, instead of using buckles or fasteners under the desks to level the heights, maybe use a couple of 1mm thick washers with an OD roughly the same as the bracket width. You could adhere a few more across the bracket so that the desk sits flush underneath and weight is evenly distributed.

I'm confused, how the stud buddy works, and he didn't realize it was metal. looks like a magnet to me.

Resisted finding yourself with the stud finder...not sure how I feel about this.

I would not trust molly bolts to hold up thousands of dollars worth of tech. very brave, hopefully not foolish.

I don’t think the wing nuts will hold all this. I’m not liking this Kyle.

Damn Kyle man I have the exact same setup in my studio, except we drilled into the studs, don't let all that weight go on the gyprock (drywall in USA?), all you need is sometime to come over drop their rig on the desk and also apply their human weight and something could come crashing down.

you have to install into wall studs. the drywall will give and desk will fall

Oh man, you're going to end up ripping the toggle bolts right through that drywall. You should use the toggle bolts in the stud, not in the drywall. This is a disaster waiting to happen...

if they aren't level, use washers to raise the lower parts

Kyle: These bolts say they hold up to 400lbs

Torque: Am I a joke to you?

You proofed that the studs are made out of steel by hammering a nail into it. But didn't you already proofed it by using a magnet to find them?

I have two of those desks. They are quite heavy. He will definitely regret using toggle bolt on drywall

Ahh best attach my thousands of dollars worth of heavy equipment into some cookie dough.
