Great video, but one thing: I've never heard the myth about "Ivy league rejects" but it's definitely not true, especially for people studying STEM/Business, who live in California, or who are interested in working in Silicon Valley. Many of my friends and I chose Cal over at least a couple Ivies, it's pretty common! After all, Cal is the #4 best university in the world in US News and World Report GLOBAL University ranking (beating every Ivy but Harvard), it's only ranked lower in National because the latter puts a big emphasis on endowment and class size. The Times ranking, the other popular ranking, puts Berkeley over some Ivies as well.


I know people at Cal who turned down every Ivy, especially Dartmouth, Brown, and Cornell, and a good number who turned down Columbia and Penn, and a couple who turned down Princeton. Just one who turned down Harvard lol. I also have a number of friends who were admitted to Ivies who didn't get into Berkeley. I'm not trying to bash on the Ivies or argue that Cal is definitely better, just say that it isn't accurate to say one is a reject of another, the people who want to go to each are usually very different. Humanities and people who live on the East coast prioritize Ivies, STEM & Business (besides Wharton applicants), people who want to work in Silicon Valley, and people who live in California prioritize Cal.






Just want to make sure prospective students watching this don't think they'd be going to any sort of "reject" school, because Cal definitely isn't! Otherwise a good video, and go bears!

There are many Harvard, Yale, or Princeton rejects at Cal but many of my friends at Haas chose Cal over Cornell or Duke for sure.

I go to Berkeley and while some party of the video are true others are, however, because of obvious bias false. 1. Berkeley Googles are 100% a thing. It‘s a unique place in that regard and I will leave it with that. 2. Getting into the class you want and really need is actually really difficult most of the time and massively stresses you out. 3. would highly recommend Greek life because while there are clubs, they are very loosely connected most of the time. (Saying that as someone in a club and in Greek life and knowing plenty of people in both)

It may sound counter-intuitive, but when I knew I was going to Berkeley, I started looking for an apartment in San Francisco. I then lived in Civic Center and rode Bart to class, entering campus every day through the redwood grove.

Just admitted into Berkeley. I'm also rejected by Ivy. Lol. But I liked berkeley better as I know more about it. Go bears!

You are amazing!. Next July I'll be a PhD visiting student at UC Berkeley. Could you please comment about how to rent cheap dorms in family homes near UCB campus? I am not from US and I am a little bit insecure of paying 2 months in advance and when I get thete the place do not exist.

Is it hard to switch majors as a freshman? I got admitted into the college of Natural Resources under Environmental Science, but Environmental Earth Science in the college of Letters and Science seems way more like what I had in mind.

I went to Berkeley, graduated 2017, and I have to say - the party scene did NOT exist. WHERE it did, it severely lacked. I went to San Francisco State for any sort of party scene. Into Oakland occasionally...Or back to LA. I'm just sayin' 'cause I lived in a sorority and that was meh. Just a fair warning, but this should not be the decisive factor when deciding on going to the school.

Students at Berkeley are ugly :( tbh, students at CAL were not the most attractive lol it's true that you don't have that much time to go to San Fran because you'll be in school mode. You'll probably spend a lot of time time at the library...if there's room. There's a plethora of amazing places to eat around campus though! :)

Figure out how to study effectively. It’s way too easy to get distracted by fun stuff at Cal.
