With the release of the Pocket 3, one question that comes up is if it's really worth upgrading from the Pocket 2. In this video, I talk about some of the main differences and upgrades between the DJI Osmo Pocket 2 and Pocket 3.

DJI sent me the Pocket 3 for review and to express my opinions. DJI was not required to review my video before posting. This is not a paid or sponsored video by DJI.

True the aperture is wider on the Pocket 2 (F1.8 vs F2.0) but what is a better comparison is the Full Frame equivalent aperture. The 1/1.7 sensor in the Pocket 2 has a FF equivalent of F8.19 Where the Pocket 3 with a 1" sensor has a FF equivalent of F5.4. Add to that the lower resolution of the Pocket 3 sensor (larger pixel size) and the low light performance of the Pocket 3 should be substantially better, area of the sensor matters!

Not gonna lie: I HAVE the ORIGINAL pocket and loved I to death. But the SECOND I saw the official launch of the Pocket 3 and what that brings, I NEED to replace my pocket. Same how I did my mini and got the mini 3 (which I’m going to be flying in Hawaii possibly tomorrow). Love seeing reviews like this which further encourages me to keep upgrading to improve my picture and video quality

Definitely worth upgrade. I own Pocket 2 since first release pre ordered without hesitation. But the new one price is bloody expensive, I stick with the old one and DJI Action 4

1” sensor is definitely worth the upgrade.

the 3k vertical video isnt really an issue.. people are watching on their phones, theyre not really rotating their 4 k desktop displays

I also noticed that P3 does produce some background blur, looks much nicer than P2. Larger sensor benefits

They’re getting bigger and bigger by the next upgrade they’ll have to release a “mini” version 😅

Why don't they just put the hasselblad lens from the mavic on the osmo or better yet put 3 cameras on an osmo and called it an Osmo Pro. I would by it. A lot more manageable for travel.

I'm waiting. DJI is part of the L Mount Alliance. If DJI launch a line of mirrorless cameras with L Mount i would buy one without a doubt. DJI already have a color science, stabilization algorithms, menus and UI, their drones delivers full professional quality images. DJI have good integration with their app with phones and tablets.

That's all my wish list when I was waiting for this update. 1 inch sensor, bigger screen, bigger battery, better low light performance.

1 - As I shoot tennis matches with my DJI pocket 2 (and Osmo Pocket before that) I'm very concerned about the overheating problems I encounter all the time if it's hot. Some updates now cut the wifi (I use my phone to adjust footage) in case of overheating, but I keep shooting. But if you add an external battery, the temperature rises and the problem is even greater. That's why in hot weather I couldn't shoot more than 1080/30fps, I hope this new version of the camera will improve things.
2 - I was concerned about the 2.0 aperture instead of 1.8 in pocket 2, but your review has convinced me that it's not a pb. Thanks for that and for the excellent review 👏

Just got my hands on the Pocket 3 and gotta say, I'm kinda let down by the image quality. It just doesn't have the details you'd expect. To some extent, it feels more like 3K to me. Pocket 2 actually did a better job in terms of sharpness and clarity. Pocket 3 of course has better dynamic range and other bells and whistles. But I do regret selling my Pocket 2.

3:26. I don't think this is dynamic range at work due to larger sensor. the back ground and foreground tells me its just different exposure. The D3 seems to lock exposure to your face compared to the D2.

Is the DJI mic that I use with my pocket 2 ( from combo kit) compatible with pocket 3?

Pocket 4 will for sure have the feature for the lens to rotate and shoot in vertical format.

I have this and Im loving it 😍 i dont have to bring my osmo mobile now and i can do portrait and landscape vid at the same 😁 everything about this camera is so good. Video vloggers and creators should have is compact and stabilized camera. Cant wait to use it on our travel to Japan ❤❤❤

Ordered. That was exactly what I wanted to know. Biggest Upgrade is the Mic2, because I have 2 of those already. Nice Video!

Been waiting for the 3 to come out to see if it was worth the extra money, and for my use case and with your info, it definitely was. Thank you for summarizing everything so well!
