“Condemned” to the “fate of Guam or Puerto Rico.”???? PR has its problems, but would you rather live there, or in Cuba?

US in 1898 : What's the worst that will happen by not annexing Cuba?

Time to reinstate some quality checks before releasing guys. There are multiple errors in the graphics that don't align with the vocal story being told.

As a Cuban raised in PR, I can say it is not even a comparison.... PR all day every day over communism....

That wasn't the flag of Spain or the Spanish Empire, that was Saint Patrick's cross.

It's closest Spanish lookalike would be the cross of Burgundy, but the Spanish had stopped using that as it's colonial flag well before the Spanish American War and it was never flown over Spanish troops.

Kind of a sideline observation here, but in the 1982 film, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" there is a scene in which one of the primary characters, Jeff Spicoli, gets a pizza delivered to him during a U.S. history class. The historical event that the class is supposedly learning about, when this pizza incident is happening, is the "Platt Amendment." This is acknowledged first via the class teacher, (Mr. Hand, ) mentioning "A piece of legislation, known as the 'Platt Amendment'..., " as well as Jeff Spicoli informing Mr. Hand (after receiving his pizza) that he's (Spicoli) "Having some food and learning about Cuba."
I just thought this to be an interesting bit of trivia now that I know exactly what the a ledged lesson was that was being taught in the movie scene.

The last I checked, people in Guam and Puerto Rico are satisfied with their American status.

Puerto Rico and Guam are Americans now. I will always support my fellow Americans.

I think a lot of Cubans are wishing America did keep them as they are trying desperately to get to the USA and obtain citizenship

Condemned to the fate of Puerto Rico? PR has the highest GDP per capita in Latin America. They have U.S. passports, can move to other states, enjoy very high human development, and lead most economic indicators in the region. Puerto Ricans are living the dream! Cuba is a failed state. The capitalist social welfare states in South America treat their most vulnerable much better than communist Cuba. It saddens me to speak to Cubans sometimes, you can feel they've lost hope that things will ever change.

My ❤️ goes out to the good people stuck in Cuba...
I from the Philippines 🇵🇭, but I have visited Cuba to see the difference between both our Revolutions in the Spanish/American wars...
The Cubans Government needs to go OR change 💯%...
No food, hours/days without electricity, nothing gets fixed... 👎🏾

Stay STRONG Cuban people...

I wish the US would take the Bahamas where I live. We are too close to the US to allow so much of the CCP having vested interest here.

Another interesting question is why the US did not grant the Philippines statehood despite that prospect being very popular with the Filipinos in 1946.

5:18 U.S didn't seize the Philippines and Puerto Rico, they were basically concessions after the US won the war.

The big majority of Cuban regrets what our ancestors did. Cuba would have been better as part of the US.

Ironically if you ask a Cuban right now I'm 100% convinced he'll ask for american colonization😢

If all current and former US colonies were American states the electoral college would look:
The Philippines-166 electoral votes
Cuba-17 electoral votes
Puerto Rico-5 electoral votes
Guam-3 electoral votes
Virgin Islands-3 electoral votes
American-Samoa-3 electoral votes

Hey,
6:28 - there should be "Leonard Wood" instead of secound Brooke
7:48 - there should be "1900" instead of "1890"
Great job, I love your channel
