The govt enterprises like BSNL has been continually making losses every year. Example, around Rs 75, 000 crore was in loss during the financial year 2021.

The govt has decided to revive such enterprises.

Pros:-
1) govt enterprises is for the purpose of rendering services and not merely profit - making as in private business.
2) it is govt enterprises like BSNL that delivers services in remote areas of India like mountainous regions of Ladakh; Islands of Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep; and Left Wing Extremist (LWE) regions. These are the places where the private enterprise has not reached due to its non profitability in such areas.

Cons:-
1) the govt has taken steps for a long time to revive such enterprises but it has not yielded any profound/ desirable results. Example, over 36% of revenue is spent towards employees expenses like salary, pension, etc.
2) due to pressure, the govt enterprises are forced to procure equipment and service from the domestic market and not avail the efficient and effective resources including technology from the international market.
