About Tendou... He's deeper than just a "weird" character, I'm happy you saw that.

One thing, I'm not sure if you missed it, but when they lost he said "Farewell... My paradise" and it has such a strong meaning, since childhood he was known as weird, but when playing voleyball he felt in the right place, it was the place he was admired and treated as someone special, not a freak but a genius. And now, he's retiring from Voleyball, this "safe place" is gone for him. That really breaks my heart.

When the Shiratorizawa Coach says, "Once the awards ceremony is over, get on the bus, " it's actually a reference back a couple episodes where Tendo mentioned that if the coach isn't satisfied with the game, he'll make everyone run back to campus instead of the taking the bus as punishment.

Cool little detail that even though they lost, the coach thought this team still played as well as they could have

One of my favorite things about this series is how it NORMALIZES CRYING for these highschool boys. Furudate-sensei (creator) did a great job in showing us how passionate/invested these young athletes are in their sport, helping us empathize with the heartbreak that comes with losing.

Even though many people find season 4 disappointing, season 4 have the best character development and character driven plot. So keep up the reactions coach.

11:51 It was so touching to see how proud the older Tsukishima (Akiteru) is of his little brother (Kei/Tsukki). Reminds you of how Tsukki used to brag about his Ace older brother when they were younger. Definitely one of my favorite little scenes

Hi Coach! I just wanted to say that although people are saying the art style in season 4 isn’t the best, I think it’s good to remember that even with a different art style, it’s still the Haikyuu we all know and love! Besides I was so in love with the series that I didn’t even notice the art style change until someone pointed it out to me when I was rewatching! It may be different but honestly I love it just as much as the original art style :)

Fun Fact: Spring Tournament used to take place in March, so it is called "Spring" Tournament. In Japan, seniors graduate in March, so they could not participate in the tournament before. It moved to January to allow seniors to compete from 2011.
Yanagida, a formar team captain of Japan national team, won the last title of the Spring tournament in March, 2010 with Sekita, a setter of Japan national team.

This is the reminder you asked for.
-There is a short video that’s the ending for Shiratorizawa
-there are two OVA’s called “Land vs. Air” and that’s for what’s happening over at Tokyo qualifiers.

When Ushijima says he will beat them next time, it is a huge compliment to their skills.
Because of his power, and unique advantage of being a leftie, he is guaranteed to go pro right out of high school. As this being his last high school game, that means he believes Hinata and Kageyama’s skills will get them in the pro league as well.

Hi Coach! Before watching the OVA, let me tell you something about Tokyo preliminary so you won't get confused. Since Tokyo has so many school, they usually got two slots for national championship. The prefecture that hosting the tournament also get an extra slot as well. So there will be three representatives from Tokyo that year.

25:16 Actually, that WAS acknowledgement.

Ushijima is a senior. This is his last high school match. When he says “I will defeat you next time” he’s inherently accepting there WILL be a next time, because he believes these two are good enough to challenge him again either in college or beyond.

That was a challenge, but also high praise from Ushijima.

Just to add to the choir: the artstyle in season 4 may be less detailed, since it‘s a different animation staff and in comparison to season 3 the animation also isn‘t quite as strong, because it is a higher episode count, but the first half of season 4 actually looks very good. It‘s the latter half that suffered a bit in quality due to the global pandemic, with some episodes being outsourced to cheaper teams with no experience drawing Haikyuu and little time both for them to get used to it and animation supervisors to correct the off-model art. Animation is also a little limited in the latter half. But it still does a good job telling one hell of a story.

Little addition: the OVAs showing Nekoma‘s and Fukurodani‘s qualifying matches are a showcase for the strengths of the new artstyle.

Ushijima and Tendou's friendship is so nice. Tendou isn't scared to talk to Ushijima and isn't put off at all by his stoicness, and Ushijima proves with Tendou that he's completely able to have a normal conversation, he's just a reserved guy and nobody else tries to have that back and forth with him.

I hope you’re going to be watching the Land vs Air OVA, that’s a really good one about Nekoma!

The editor adding in a sad kenma when coach was talking about his younger years was beyond funny!!

One small thing I love in this episode is Tsukki bowing to the audience with the team. Every other game, he’s the only member who doesn’t bow when thanking the stands, then once he discovers his love for the game and give it his all, he joins the team in bowing. Just a tiny detail that makes his character feel way more fleshed out!

I love the visual metaphors in this episode one thing you might notice is when they are pushing ushijima off Hinata and tsuki the only one not involved in that is kageyama signifying his status as one of those genius like players so he doesn’t feel the same pressure the others do of having to play an opponent like ushijima
