Joanna visits with Chris Schalk, Barren County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources to talk about sprayer calibration.
Calibrating application equipment is something many people avoid because they believe it is too time con¬suming or that the math involved is too confusing. Calibration, however, is critical. Applying too little pesticide can result in poor pest control and can lead to pesticide resistance; over-applying can be bad for the environment, damage the crop, and waste money. Winter is great time to get application equipment in order for use in the spring. Producers that calibrate their equipment now will be ahead of the curve when the busy spring time rush gets here. No special equipment is needed, in fact, most farmers will have the needed supplies in their shop now.
