Please don't give up. It's always fun to see what wacky things you get

The thing with Ribbons is to look out for what ribbons are available to that Pokemon. If it says it was caught in Scarlet/Violet but has ribbons from previous games it's definitely hacked. But even if it has every ribbon it COULD have it's unlikely someone would put in all that effort just to surprise trade it

Another thing to check if its hacked, check its stats and held item. If its not shiny, it always had perfect stats and was holding master ball, ability patch, or gold/silver bottle caps

The problem is that there's really nothing you can do about the bots, but I personally enjoy seeing the non-hacked pokemon, they're unique and wonderful and worthwhile, like light in darkness, happy moments.

hacked Pokemon have existed before but, in my opinion, in Scarlet and Violet it's the worst, it's really sad

Master Rank Ribbon is actually not that difficult to get on random Pokémon. All you need to do is win one battle in Master Ball Tier and it gets added to all six Pokémon on your team, which is great since you only use 3 or 4 (depending on singles or doubles) in the battle itself. So you could get it on a Caterpie just by having one on your team while the other members do the fighting.
But obviously yeah if something from a Surprise Trade has two dozen other ribbons on it, then it's highly unlikely any of them are legit.

Makes me feel bad having traded away extra shinies ive found knowing there's a real chance the receiver just releases it, but honestly with how bad the bots are I can't blame anyone for not trusting a random trade lol

I usually get so exited when I see a shiny but just to find out it’s a hacked on
Edit: dang the comments are very relatable

You Could try doing link trades with codes so we can see the name and see it’s you and we don’t lose anything special 😊🎉

every time I get one, I release it to make sure it doesn’t go to someone else! x

I honestly kind of hope for a hacked shiny in hopes that it’s holding a useful item. I release the Pokémon though.

I’m really sad because I sent a bunch of legitimate shinies to surprise trades. Half of them were received by bots :(

The thing is, these bot accounts want advertising. Even if only 0.1% of people actually even bother to LOOK at their website, thats like 50 people from this short alone (at the time of posting this comment). The best thing to do is just release any Hacked mons and don't draw major attention to them, cus thats exactly what they want... The whole situation sucks, but until Nintendo or the Pokemon company decide to do something about it, that's all we can really do.

Why cant nintendo just do something about the hackers? Or better yet, just let us block users we've recently traded with by having them show up on our recent player list. Im doing a SurpriseLocke and each encounter takes hours because of all the hackers

Surprise trade is a great way to complete the poke dex especially for the version exclusives and the trade evos.

to everyone, pls note that there ARE people who send legitimate shinies over surprise trade! do not toss out every shiny you get through surprise trade!! PLEASE check the levels (level 100 is almost surely hacked), the IVs (most hacked shinies are genned with perfect IVs), held items (most often they’re sent with ability capsules, ability patches, and master balls in my experience), and the trainer name/pokémon name as stated in the vid!! there are some people that are notorious online as hackers that don’t have a website as their name, so google trainer names as well.

but please be don’t toss every shiny you get traded!! some people just actually wanna spread the love. but, if you decide to keep the held items from hacked shinies… i mean, i’m not gonna tell on ya

And here I thought my shiny Cramorant in a Love Ball named Love was just an innocent nickname…

I received a legit shiny varoom named Hotwheels today and I traded him back out and luckily got a real person. I used to surprise trade my spare shinies all the time but bots have eaten so many lately so now most rot in my boxes. I like the shiny outbreak events because I can get 3-7 per herba sandwich so trading them is less stressful.
