EE is one of the greatest ever IMO. His licks and tone have been stuck in my head for 45 years.

Yes, HUGE Bakersfield country influence in Elliot's playing and he's even said so. Best Friend's Girl solo for instance, wow!

So happy you're covering Elliot Easton. Great guitar player. He reminds me of George Harrison and Mike Campbell. Broad influences, range, always playing great fills serving the song. And, of course his own great chops and choices. Love The Cars. (written before Tim makes the George Harrison comment).

One of the most down to earth musicians I've ever communicated with. He helped me get a left-handed Gibson Tikibird, a rare signature guitar, that was only around for a short period of time. His music is a joy to listen to, back then till today.

One of your greatest breakdowns Tim! Thank you!

I spent hours listening to Moving in Stereo - still love this album.

Love anything Elliot Easton plays. The solo on "Shake It Up" always leaves a smile on my face--what a gem it is.

Eliot treated his solo as another "hook" to the song. Always tuneful, melodic and memorable. But he played better ones than that one.

Amen, Brother! Thanks for highlighting this solo. I also love how these days that Elliot is SO ACCESSIBLE! Haha. I mean, you're right, he is the historian of the band and such a genuinly nice guy! I DO LOVE that ride up to the sixth in that solo. I was 11. I liked it. Thanks for this post and also that industry report. Haha. Blast from the past!

The solo on “It’s all I can do” is brilliant. Melodic monster.

Best Friends Girl is a total gem, your all ive got tonight is another perfect for the song solo. both of em, the ending one validates the first one and the entire song, the ending outro solo in bye bye love is sooo sassy and classy.

I love that you're talking about Elliot Easton! I have never been a guitar player with the speed skills and chops to play most rock, heavy metal, certain jazz and other hyper technical guitar parts. Elliot bridged a gap between BB King milking so much out of a few notes and the aforementioned technical wizards. Mechanically, his solos are relatively easy, but they make so much use of speaking in colors with efficiency. I played Just What I Needed, You Might Think, and Magic in my very first band gig, and it was wonderful to be able to ape such interesting and enjoyable lines!

Regarding the affordable amps, I personally recommend the Spark Mini. That little cube has such great tone and so many features and benefits. I’m 62 and started playing when I was 10. I can only imagine how cool a Spark Mini would have been in my teenage years.

And I’ve added a Spark Cab for when I want bigger sound. It is also an amazing piece of technology.

PS. Great coverage on Elliot Easton. Their first two albums had a huge impact on me and my
musical tastes. The Cars, along with the Pretenders and the Knack were my entryway into “New Wave”, which also lead me back to punk bands like The Clash. Great stuff, that still holds up now, nearly 50 years later.

listen to the live stuff from the 70s.. nothing compares to their live stuff... I grew up on the 80s version and I'm glad I discovered the 70s version... Elliott's guitar parts on the live albums from the 70s are just phenomenal.., so is everyone else...

Two things I discovered about this song, , , ,
1) the intro is "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by the Ohio Express and
2) the chord progression for the verse is "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" by the Beatles, , , , (kinda:)
just throwing it out there...
Love your content Tim, Cheers from Detroit
