Books I’ve had on my list for a while…Zorro by Isabel Allende, and Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov are the 2 books I want to read this year and if I can… the autobiography of Malcolm X. Oh, and A Little History of Literature by John Sutherland.

I have a couple books that I hope to finish by the end of the year as I started them and just put down as I wasn't feeling it for whatever reason. Part of my reading plan for 2022 is to read Our Mutual Friend :)

A big yes for Night Watch by Sarah Waters! Absolutely loved it! I enjoyed most of her books tho I'm, quite surprisingly for me, struggling with The Paying Guest atm.

I hope you enjoy The Night Watch, the best of Sarah Waters in my opinion. And one of the best historical fiction about the WWII.

Can you bring back the #backlist readathon next year? I’ve been trying to get my TBR down from 68 to 52 before 2022. #nonficnov should have helped but my nonfiction books tend to be very long. So as of today (23rd Nov) I’ve only read 4 nonfiction out of 11. I’ve only read one fiction, The Fell by Sarah Moss. It was disappointing. My nonfiction was great however
Empire of Pain
Hidden Valley Road
A Swim in a Pond in the Rain
The Noonday Demon

Grahame Greene is an author I used to read all the time; and altho I don't read much Dickens I used to very much enjoy a good study of Shakespeare's art and/or language. Nice to hear from you, Kate, have happy holidays and a merry new year.

I made a somewhat random list at the beginning of the year of books that I planned to read for a reason, or books I wanted to read and kept putting off year after year. There were 31 books. I've read 17 of them, one I DNF'd and one I decided not to read. That leaves twelve - seven of those can wait until 2022 and five I hope to squeeze in before the end of the year - Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, Becoming by Michelle Obama, Once Upon a River by Setterfield, and The Near Witch by Schwab. I also want to participate in the Cloak and Dagger Christmas Readathon and I want to read some Victorian ghostly short stories. I am very excited to hear what your contenders for favorite book of the year are - but I can wait if you have it planned to reveal them in an end of the year post.

I liked The Night Watch, and imagine most readers would enjoy it. Sarah Waters is very good at setting a memorable scene, and there some bits which I still recall vividly even though it's been a long time.

The Sister Who Ate Her Brother sounds great. I have made so many plans for 2022. I do too love making challenges and all that

I've not read The Night Watch, so am grateful to you and Marissa for reviewing it next month - hope it's good :-) I'm planning to read The Luminaries by the end of year but as it's a chunker, that might be a bit optimistic!

If you read Huckleberry Finn you should find his father's rants against the government funny, however I don't know if you are aware that the character Huck was actually introduced in Twain's prior novel Tom Sawyer.
