I play guitar in both black metal and death metal and for my death metal sometimes I draw grooves from the riffs on this album. This album was imo the best and heaviest slipknot album ever.

Slipknot, Slipknot is still my favorite album, but Iowa is a close second...Iowa is heavier, but the raw chaos of the first (actually second) album just excites the hell out of me. Great jamming as usual Jamie!!

Probably my favorite album of all time. Slipknot may not be the heaviest band of all time or anything but I think the self titled and Iowa are some of the angriest unadulterated metal ever made. Still gives me chills it’s one of those albums I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard it lol

Early Slipknot brought in clear death metal influences into their nu metal sound. Basically made bouncy death metal riffs, combined them with accessible nu metal songwriting for the masses and opened up a lot of people's minds to more heavy bands over time. Them and Mudvayne.

Also, while I agree IOWA was their best album, I'd say All Hope Is Gone was their last great album and a bit underrated by Slipknot purists. Didn't really care about the last two albums if I'm being honest.

I'm suprised by how much of this sounds like groove death with a tad of industrial and not even like how nu metal normally is. It really feels like Slipknot saw that they were being lumped in with Korn and Limp Bizkit and decided to do eveything they weren't.

I was late in getting into Slipknot. I don't think I became a real fan until the "All Hope Is Gone" era, but I still listened to their stuff before then. "Iowa" eventually became my favorite album and "My Plague" eventually became my favorite song of theirs. Resident Evil definitely was a big part in that.

I really enjoy Metabolic main riff. Also one of my favorite songs as well.

Iowa is most likely their heaviest album, but I’d argue that some songs on .5, WANYK, and even AHIG come very close. Gematria, AHIG title track, Sarcastrophe, The Negative One, Red Flag, Orphan, and Solway Firth. Also, Three Nil and Welcome from Vol. 3 are very heavy as well.
