Bankruptcy should not be used to protect from civil or criminal litigation or as a way to conceal or hide and protect profits from those litigations...
Purdue made way more than 6 billion ...
It should be blocked 100K plus died while millions became addicts and Millions of others lives were ruined directly or indirectly...

The company should pay with everything, its name and every last dollar that can be seized. Just like any street drug dealer would otherwise face.

"Unprecedented" is being used in the place of "criminal". These people should not profit from ruining people's lives

These people have so much money, and they have been fighting and fighting us on this.
This drug ruined my life for years, parents lost children, young adults, seniors and everyday people found they had a horrendous addiction and the doctors got vacations and gifts and got rich. I bet they gave 3×the amount of $ in perks to the docs and sales people but they can't give the people who paid 3× for their prescriptions anything!
Evil. Evil. Evil

Netflix has a new series about this horrible act of greed perpetrated by the Sackler family. It was released on Thursday August 10. It presents the sordid story from development of Oxycontin to the marketing of the drug to physicians to the cruel and harmful affects the company allowed to play out on its victims. I highly recommend it, but be prepared, it will bring up some strong emotions.

It’s seems we just live in an *unprecedented* time. It seems to be the go to trigger word nowadays.

The settlement should be for no less then all the money the Sackler and Purdue and any people who held any responsible position in the company and even that wouldn't be enough. Obviously everyone involved must face long prison sentences (for violating multiple laws in context with the opiod crisis and fraud).

Did one of the Sacklers buy Clarence "Stephen" Thomas 17 vacations too?

Yes!!! They should all be in jail serving a life sentence for fraud that led to the unnecessary addiction and death of millions! They instructed their sales reps to lie, and play dowm the real danger of opiod abuse. When caught, they unrepentedly sent reps to China to sell it to keep their profits going. Money, money, money. Ice water in their veins.

I thought corporations were people? Seems the entire company should pay.

I say treat this the same way that Medical Debt or Tax Debt or Student loan debt.... Not allowed to include in bankruptcy. They are looking for an easy out so their bottom line isn't affected. The greed with large corporations has become out of control and even though it sounds bad, the government DOES need to intervene in this case. I was never for Socialism or Government interference before, but BECAUSE of government regulations and subsidies, large corporations have found ways to get even larger and have more control over the everyday American's lives.. so they do need to intervene and stop the greed.

This is why you take Supreme Court Judges on vacation.

The settlement should not shield them from criminal charges.. They should be liable for the millions of lives they ruined..

They did severe harm knowingly to enrich themselves. No deal.

For those not quite getting this, it's a good thing. It means the company (and the Sacklers) will have to face the law like everyone else, not just buy there way out of criminal acts. Yes, there's a chance scotus could still let them off, but that's unforeseen yet and as it is now, this is good. The court may have shown a tiny spec of integrity..

Looks like some more "gifts." luxury trips, private jet rides, sky boxes at games, etc. are coming the SC's way!
