A one-sample t test will allow us to compare a sample mean to a population mean to determine if they are statistically significantly different. This video will introduce you to the fundamentals of the one-sample t test and prepare you for conducting one either by hand or using SPSS.

Thanks for another great video! I would just like to clarify for the students watching this video that the IV is not the sample. The independent variable (IV) is the treatment/ manipulation/ drug/ caffeine given. It is not the sample, the participants, or the polar bears. It is the variable, not the sample, that is categorical. Just wanted to share because I often see students mistakenly replying to "What is the IV?" with "the participants" as their answer. :)
