Oh hell no. The old phrase was "boss makes a dollar I make a time that's why I shit on company time" but now it's more like "boss makes multi millions, I make $7.50" which just doesnt have the same ring to it

Also a "quiet" discrimination tactic for people with conditions or disabilities who need to go to the bathroom often.

Every time I’ve read an employee handbook from some semi large or large corporation there is no question they’re expecting their employees to be robots

Bosses like the one described in this video are exactly why unions were formed! I know that working conditions before union and labour laws could be horrendous and “clocking in/out” for bathroom breaks doesn’t seem like a valid comparison. However, when those “little things” such as docking pay for bathroom or coffee ☕️ breaks are tolerated, it may not be long before the average worker finds working conditions plummeting.
Look at how Amazon treats their employees. There are all kinds of stories about workers peeing in bottles (not just the delivery drivers) because they don’t want their pay docked. Every year, it seems that there are a few stories that make their way into the press featuring some employee getting seriously hurt on the job due to poor maintenance of equipment. Sometimes workers are expected to fix malfunctioning heavy machinery themselves though they are not qualified to do so. They definitely are getting no extra pay and certainly no paid leave if they are injured.🤕 Amazon even shows new managers/supervisors videos on how to spot and stop employees talking about unionization. It’s a complete gong show!
Anyway, sorry for such a long-winded response. I just have to say:
Listen to this man! He knows what he is talking about.
*Note* Of course also make sure to check into your specific state and country laws. 😊

I don't care how long it is, if you are actually going to the bathroom the boss has no reason to speak.

My boss tried to make me do this cause I spent "too much time" in the bathroom. The most I spent in the bathroom was 10 minutes when I was called in to go to work when I was sick. I told him it wasn't something I could do. He said "just make your break be your bathroom break. Clock out when you do that."

Lowes does this for remote jobs, what they do is make you switch to a break status which affects your productivity which goes towards your performance reviews lol which means they’ll use those metrics to fire you

Yep, this is a real thing that happens in some folks worlds. I've had a supervisor who would watch me go to the bathroom than come check on me than send me a text asking why I was out of my work area. Mind you this was all in a space of fifteen minutes or so. Bad behavior didn't stop until I start texting him back pictures of my turd in the toilet and made sure to cc everything over to multiple levels of management and HR. I hate to have to act like I'm less than human but I will when pushed enough.

Yup, my office had a case like this. The company had an employee only bathroom, which is fair enough... but the restrooms were behind a locked door amd to get and out of the area (which only had bathrooms) required a badge swipe. The company claimed it was for security but the employees learned that this time between swipes was tracked and after 10 minutes of the first swipe they were clocked out, then clocked back in when they swiped back on to the floor. The company tried.to get out of it by saying their system allowed a 10 minute paid break every 90 minutes which was more than the law required. In our case, the employee has an ostomy bag and she didn't really want everyone to know. She requested an accommodation for her disability and they refused because "their research" said emptying the pouch could be done in under 10 minutes and she was free to go as often needed every 90 minutes. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah, my boss at Ralph’s didn’t have this policy but apparently they’d always keep track and thought I was spending more time than needed in the restroom. They kept telling me I was disappearing when I made it pretty clear that I was using the restroom. Anyway, they ended up with a couple lawsuits which I wasn’t a part of unfortunately but they caused me a world of hurt and I still have ptsd from an incredibly hostile work environment.

2 things,
1. If you make me clock out to use the restroom Im on my time, so I will take as long as I want to.
2. The day a job tells me I can't use the restroom is the day I quit. Yes I understand some professions dont allow frequent restroom breaks but I dont work in those jobs

In my old job we didn't need to clock bathroom breaks, but once a girl started going to the bathroom and just stay on her phone for 30 minutes almost 4 times a day, she wasn't sick or anything, they started to clock us all...
Talked to hr since they were open about almost everything and was told that that was only to purge people that were abusing the bathroom breaks to avoid doing any work
They never enforced anything about it, no discounts or reprimants for goint to the bathroom...

You always say, make sure you have everything in writing. What if the employer requires all communication to go through a delegated app, and when they wrongly terminate you and remove you from access the messages you've sent. How would you justify a lawsuit when there is no evidence?

I actually had my current employer tell me that it has to be under 10 minutes or less in the bathroom. The bathroom breaks can’t be so frequent. If I need to take longer than 10 minutes and I need to notify somebody, but yet they have no coverage on the floor. I was directly told where I can, and can’t use the bathroom 😂😂😂😂😂 it gets better trust…

IMHO, you should not have to clock out for any breaks. I’m there working so I should get paid for my time there.

Call centers are the worst offenders for this. They make you have to clock out to go to the bathroom. I've had two companies do this and it was a pain.

If they are that harsh over a bathroom, I can only imagine needing accommodations

I remember I used to go to the bathroom just to even sit down because my boss “didnt want me to sit down on the clock” I was the only night time housekeeper that would end up walking 10-13 miles in 8 hours without sitting. It was brutal to say the least and I’m glad I don’t have any negative effects after leaving

I dont make my employees clock out to use the bathroom but i have had issues in the past where an employee would spend an hour+ a day on the toilet.
