Tomi, you need to know that a dealer, service facility can opt out from reporting to Carfax. This is more common that most may think.

My other experience is that there maybe a lot of incorrect info. Buyer beware. Always do a 3rd party mechanical inspection.

That was a pretty interesting video. When I was car shopping, I would analyze the Carfax as well to establish a mental narrative about what happened with this vehicle. Keep these up

Some franchise dealerships don’t even report maintenance to carfax.

One of the biggest areas of concern about CARFAX, and other such services, is how many repairs are done and never reported? So it does not show-up on the CARFAX or other similar services? Hmmm.

I do my own oil changes. That will not show on any Carfax. Mine would only show warranty work. Also some people may not put an accident through their insurance company.

I sold my old RAV4 at an AutoNation Toyota Irvine to get rid of it. It needed some mechanical work and had 191, 000 miles on it. I kept it in my garage in the CarFax app. It showed the maintenance done to prep it for sale by the dealership with mileage of 191, 700. The next record was for an oil change at three months later at Culver City Toyota and the mileage went down to 119, 720. Someone rolled back the odometer. There was even a note on the carfax that the mileage was changed. I talked to the service manager at Culver City Toyota to have the new owner contact me since he got ripped off and was promised that I would hear from them. Crickets. There have been several repair records added with some major repairs. I added a service record of my own that reads the new owners got ripped off 72, 000 miles and left my number to call for information. We’ll see.

It would be funny to see the carfax on my wifes 2009 kia rio. I've done all the maintenance since brand new. the carfax would only show sets of tires installed at wally world over this last almost 16 years🤪

There are a ton of cars in Michigan from Canada. Won't touch them with a 10ft pole. I also find the car on car gurus to see how long it has sat on the dealership. I seen a car that the tires replaced and then 6 months later replaced 2 tires. Always look at the service records.

What usually happens, is they get a deal where an inspection is included if you get your oil changed at certain spots, which explains probably why they only showed it once each year.

Thank you for this video. I’m in the process of purchasing my first car and the used car research is very overwhelming on knowing what to look for - specially in the Car Fax 😭More vids like this please on how to research and what to look for ! thanks !,

Thank you for the insight! I do all my maintenance, so my 2011 CTSV Carfax will be blank in the service section. Does service only show if the work was performed by a dealer, or do private shops report service? Thanks again! -Michael

I really enjoy your video regarding Car Max. Also your car buying negotiations. Would you also do a demonstration on talking to different dealers on purchasing a manufacturer extended warranty as I feel that a lot of them take advantage of customers in the finance department. If you start complaining about the price of a manufacture warranty, then they try to sell you one of those aftermarket warranty and I’ve heard some nightmare stories about taking your vehicle to another dealership in another city and if you’re on vacation, you’re stuck until the aftermarket warranty place approves the repair. And then what happens if it’s not approved, what are the repercussions.

Btw, some dealerships offer a freebie oil change just to get your business. Happened with me and the mechanic left the drain plug loose.

Sometimes I do my own oil changes and sometimes I take it somewhere to get done. Just depends on how much time I have on my hands or how lazy I want to be.

I just traded in my 2019 civic in Canada. Had a 3200$ accident on the carfax from before I bought it used. All the dealerships that gave trade in appraisal said they didn’t care about the carfax and it was the kilometres that was most important
