7 games in, with qb keepers and running backs torching BYU defense in almost every game. How is it possible the D ends don't know they MUST hold the edge.

Everyone talking about UCF having lost 4 in a row. Please don’t be naive. They almost just beat undefeated ISU, and probably should have won that game. They are a good team with some games they barely lost to other good teams like Colorado. They could easily stomp the Cougars if we’re not prepared. Plus at 4 game losing streak they’re like a wounded feral animal fighting for their lives. They will be extremely dangerous!

Rewatch the tape. The DEs were crashing every play. Batty especially. It seemed to be a design feature that week, on purpose. Okie State running so much RPO caught us off guard. Hill usually ctaches teams off guard, but Gundy did it to BYU this week. Even when Bowman came in they kept running it to show BYU they would. BYU Kept crashing the DE. And then Okie State ran a guard or TE at Kelly all game long so they blocked level 2 really well, and they set the edge, we did not. Honestly, Gundy about won that game with great scheme on its own. vs. UCF, BYU has to crash less, set the edge better, and just be more sound. Might give up more 3-7 yarders, but fewer 10+ Gains. And that has to be the goal because UCF struggles in the red zone. BYU is awesome in the red zone. So expect BYU to give up yards from teh 25 to 25, but then they will stiffen, force them to kick FGs, and then go get TDs. THat won it vs, SMU, KState and Arizona. It needs to win it vs. UCF.

Go look up Bryant Gumbel NBC’s Today show 1984 BYU comments. It is still the same. BYU’s winning the championship is a primary reason the powers that be changed how the champion was decided. I am old enough to remember the “discussions”!

Jake it's not bias that some of these teams are above BYU. These teams were ranked at the beginning of the season. BYU wasn't even ranked until they beat Kansas State. It's not like these one loss teams are jumping the cougars. What is biased is the AP poll before the season starts. I don't think teams should be ranked until the mid point of the season!!!

Yes, Drake Toll presents with a BYU bias. Something Kurtz and Mundo have also got on board with. Why? BYU brings clicks and views. Something KSL has yet to figure out with their hodge podge ute heavy radio shows that get a 100 replays...legacy home, translated = we used to be the home...KSL instead of improving their product by separating out and increasing BYU content took the weekend off 3 of their regular BYU leaning podcasts, and added an hour if adds and a newsroom to Cougar Sports Saturday! Maybe someone who works there can straighten them out?

The run defense was atrocious because players weren’t assignment sound trying to do too much and make huge plays . Hill’s a great coach and I’m sure he is going to have a lot to say in film session and they will practice like crazy making sure they are more assignment sound and where they should be instead of freelancing . It might have been the prefect wake up call to get their focus better for Central Florida because that team can run the ball ! If BYU are aggressive but also assignment sound on defense they should defeat Central Florida . If they aren’t assignment sound they’ll probably lose .

UCF will control the clock and score a lot of points if BYU can't play assignment defense. Yes, all of them were going for the big play allowing those QBs to destroy them on the ground.

We play our scheme and assignments and we crushed, which showed in the second half.

If BYU wants to climb in the polls (or more importantly) continue winning, they have to show they can stop a really good run team AND get off the field on third and fourth down. BYU has struggled with that. And this isn’t a minor tweak. This is a major fix. If they can’t fix that, we are all going to be heartbroken again. If they can fix it, we are CF playoff bound.
