I didn't think Graham Hunter could say anything that would make me see him in an even more shining light. Respect to this man..

Graham articulating things not just about the Vinicius situation but about Spanish societies discourse around racism that I've felt for years as someone that has lived there and speaks the language.

Not surprised by Ancelotti's comments as the same attitudes largely prevail in Italy sadly. In fact Moise Kean was also accused of over celebrating when he scored at Cagliari and was racially abused, those saying he was partly to blame even included members of his own team Juventus (Bonucci and Allegri)

Graham might talk sense, but he does go round the houses to make a point.

The minute the Atletico fans made this about race, they proved that all the hate Vinicius gets because of his supossed "showboating" and dancing has nothing to do with football, but rather that people hate the fact that such a talented and wonderful player exists, who is also black. Some people hate this fact.

Great interview. I wonder if Graham has ever commented on the vicious racial abuse hurled at Basque teams when they travel around Spain. IMO it is equally deplorable, or when Athletic Madrid fans murdered Aitor Zabaleta, a Real Sociedad in supporter. They had a a `game´ called `el cazo del Vasco, which means `hunting for Basques.

Calling a black guy “mono”. Is off limits. Period. No ambiguity.

Talking about Racism just remembered how Dani Alves reacted to a banana thrown at him.

It’s very nice that you are taking about the issue, Pedro Bravo need to be sack because the problem was he pretty much told Vini back to Brazil to dance!! That’s unacceptable

Having visited Spain may times its definitely an overt cultural thing in Spain to use racist terms... I remember the English national team playing in the Bernabeu almost 20 yrs ago and all the black players received horrendous abuse. The Spanish head coach @ time, Luis Aragones, had only recently described Thierry Henry as a "black s****e", did not deny saying it *but* did deny the remark was racist 😯!

I disagree about his interpretation about why the phrase was racist and yet I reach the same conclusion regarding it´s meaning, it indeed was racist.

Hmm. To believe Graham you have to accept he's a mind reader. You also have to accept you must treat whites and blacks differently.
The behaviour of the A Madrid fans leaves no room for misinterpretation though.

So you can call a white person a monkey but not a black person? I wouldn't do it either, given the sad history of its use as a racially abusive term. Just a shame that we're moving more and more towards treating people differently based on their skin colour.
Intersectionality is all about that - separating people by race, sex, religion, sexual orientation. It should surely be the opposite, people should all be treated the same regardless of their immutable characteristics. Shame we seem to be moving in the opposite direction.

Common man is "hacer el mono" and "eres un mono" different? Yeah a word could had a softer meaning in the past, but in the context I think is racist and xenophobic.
