Textbook money would be a good gift. It's not a gadget, but badly needed. A semester's worth of books is more than the Nexus 7 though.

Petite is both english and french; the english language borrows a lot of words and phrases from other languages, particularly french. e.g. Cafe, Cul-de-sac, blond/e, brunette, morale, ménage à trois.
