Great idea. And what it comes down to is confidence. Once u go low a few times specially in tournaments u know u can do it. And when u go low ur not trying to just hold on, ur trying to go lower.

this is great video, I have recently started playing again after a 20 year lapse, I've been playing an executive course with only 6 par 4's and 12 par 3's, I've really gotten much better with my short game and have brought my scores down dramatically. This is really validating for me, as a man you sometimes feel like I have to play the hardest course and tees.

All new golfers should do that. Same for those older golfers who dont have the distance but still hit it straight.

Golf is just so much of a mental game it's crazy... The last few years I was always getting close to par (69 at my home course) then once you finally break par it's like a weights been lifted and you can relax alot more knowing you can actually do it. Just about playing within you're comfort zone and not trying to hole absolutely everything

Luv his Manc accent.

Interesting method to use the forward tees to be in different approach distance from the greens.

I teach young golfers to do exactly this. To beat scoring barriers you got to see the ball go down and the scorecard reflect it. I will play the forward tees from courses in my practice rounds before tournaments. It really shows how to play well around the greens which you don’t get to do from the tips.

This is so true. I remember when I was trying to break 90 for the longest time and one day they were redoing all the tee boxes and we played from the forward tees. I shot 83 and the rest is history.

Everyone I play with plays from blues. I play from whites because that genuinely the tees I should play. I feel pressure sometimes or they pressure me to play from blues but I don’t do it anymore like I use to. I’m actually seeing results which makes me want to practice more and makes me more confidant. I’m very close to having the carry on my driver and distance on other clubs to playing from blues.

had a club pro I worked w when I first learned in college. we played rounds like this eveyone now and then to challenge our thinking. we also had rounds where we alternated tees every hole, red white blue days to make the course more fun. course has some distance between tees so made it really fun

I just recently did this at 31 and have been shooting one or two under. It has made the game a lot more fun.

That’s how every player should start out… it makes golfing so much more fun when you suck… I play the tips now and shoot 75-80’everywhere I go

Very interesting idea. Makes perfect sense to me, it's one of those things you never think of but once someone says it you wonder why you hadn't thought of it. My ego makes me want to play the back tees, but one has to come to terms with being the apprentice if they ever want to become the master.

I’ve done the same and next round shot my best round ever

I play from the middle tee unless $$ is on the table then we go to the tips

Probably makes you focus on the shorter/scoring clubs rather than hitting longer irons into greens. Everyone wants to hit driver but hardly anyone practices from inside 100m

That's fucking brilliant. I started golf like 3 or 4 months ago at age 30 and haven't touched them since I 8 and never really took it any serious, just whenever my Uncle dragged me to a course. The most frustrating part of my game right now is my driver. My irons are basically solid and my putter will come with more experience but I cannot drive for shit. I haven't been able to play a ball off the tee, only best ball with whoever I'm with and still got a fair amount of "birdies" and a few "eagles". Playing closer to the hole will atleast allow me to just play irons and actually play my lie while I work on correcting my driver.

Harvey Penick did this with his players. A friends in the 90's who was on a major college team also said his coach would have them play the ladies tees to work on wedges and get used to making birdies.
