The face orientation is smart. There are times I'm on the couch or in bed (ON MY SIDE) and I have to make sure I'm using my phone upright or turn off screen orientation to make sure I can have it sideways and still read. If it takes your face into consideration then it might stay in portrait orientation even if you're laying sideways looking at the phone. That's something you should try when you get a review unit.

For the tech savvy not having Google isn't a problem since GApps is a simple flash away, but for the masses does it come with Aptoide or some selection of App stores?

These 'waterfall' displays seem pretty gimicky no matter how you look at it. Sure, it makes the display go all the way to the edge but watching videos on them will likely mean details getting cut off on the top and bottom, when viewed directly from the front. Same for user interfaces that have elements pinned to the edges and corners of the screen (quite a number of mobile games). Having glass roll off the edge means a greater surface and chance of breakage too (let's not forget how much of a pain it is to find good screen protectors that work properly with curved edges). 🤷‍♂️
