Since it confused you, only the belt itself will move you. You can stand on the side skirts of it (which you can also attach other conveyor belts too) without moving yourself a bit.

I learned you after you tap it once with your mouse button, you can tap the "spacebar" & it locks it in place...letting you focus on other stuff as it just keeps going! saving you from finger-carpal-tunnel!

When crafting if you just push spacebar one time it should keep making the item.
