What is the legal age of marriage in India & why Centre wanted to raise the age for women?

The Union Cabinet has given its nod to raise the legal age of marriage of women from 18 to 21 years after a four-member task force led by former Samata Party chief Jaya Jaitly pushed for it last December. I would say, increase the legal marriage age even further to 24, particularly for females.

Because, I had seen many parent when their daughter completes 12th standard and is 18 years age, they force their daughter to get married.
And because at that age, the girl don't have college degree therefore finically dependent. So girl could not oppose that.

But till age 24 girl can get a college degree. Get a job and become financially independent.
One that happen, no one can force her to do anything.

So this basically increases marriage age for men also, because in almost all of the cases birde and groom's age will never be equal.

No there are issues in this venture
. Can you prevent Illegal marriages below 21. Already 26 percent of marriages occur below 18
. Secondly, howuch of a difference fir women as a whole when this does not applybto muslim or even tribal women
. Affect girls independence as she is controlled by the time she reaches 21 despite the fact she is of voting age
.this can affect marriage between intercastes who are 18 and above where parents can complian this legitimate marriage using this new law

I thought there is equality in India but then by this video I come to know that there are some privileged sections like Muslim comunity where the law is different for them. women empowerment and health issues and minimum age, etc is not for them.

Government should increases the budget for girls education and make rhe education MANDATORY and FREE EDUCATION to all girls till the age of 21 years for keeping the girls busy in education and vocational courses trainingo then only the 21 years of age for marriage can be justified moreover this law will be good for career oriented girls.

But what about the girls who don't have opportunity or not interested in continuing their education in this case parents don't want their daughters to simply sit at home instead they want to relieve themselves from theirs daughters marrairge responsibility by marrying them in a respectful manner.
If the government is of the opinion that at the age of 18 girls are not mature enough to choose the husband and live their life happily married then a law to be passed in Parliament to increase the age of adult franchise to 21 years for both boys and girls.
