Don't Assume What You Don't Know (Grace Vanderwaal) reaction

This partial, quirky ditty put together in April 2020 by Grace is spectacular in writing, performance and sound, with an almost reggae beginning and then busting out with her gorgeous, raspy voice. This song may be on her upcoming Letters Vol. 2 EP. Sure hope so!

You absolutely never know what you are going to get with Grace. This can not be accidental. It must be purposeful. Grace must make a conscious effort to surprise us over and over again. I love this so much that it makes me wish that she would stay with this style. But I know that she will surprise me again. And I will love it again. What a marvel this young woman is.

It really felt good, Dax, that you liked this clip so much! I was so blown away when I first heard it that I sent the YouTube link to all my friends. It turns out my friends are a bunch of idiots because not one seemed as thrilled with it as I was! I forgive them but still... This clip omits Grace's introduction to the song as well as her post performance celebration. It is not an exaggeration to say she was totally beside herself with excitement over this song! She apologized for being egotistical and then backtracked and said that she was "prideful" about something she had worked hard on. I thought the net result was she was being her usual humble self but just couldn't contain her excitement. Personally, I think it is absolutely wonderful when a person expresses pride in their own work! This song brings me joy every time I hear it! I hear it pretty often because I probably click on the link at least a couple of times a week! Here is the link to the original post on YouTube. Grace starts introducing the song at about 14:55

Nice one Dax. Looks like this is going to be her next single. As you said, the lyrics are just so deep. Every line means pages worth of commentary.

This song is all about fame and money not filling the void in your soul, or making you genuinely content. About being so full of yourself that you're out of touch with real world, and your world falls apart from the littlest upsets (trip on a stick when the wind blows). She is not talking about herself, but about famous people who think they're the most important and powerful thing on the planet (drive with your eyes closed; red light but you still go).

She must have been told by industry people to do what they tell her and they will promise something like she will be playing for huge crowds in Japan in 5 6 months.

This song runs somewhat parallel to In My Blood by Shawn Mendes. Shawn wrote "take her home and you'll feel better". Grace wrote "get the girl but it wasn't the cure". Fame comes with superficial pleasures. You travel the world and have too much money but none of that means anything. You're still where you started from and still walking around lost, because all that fame and money didn't really make you genuinely happy.

Well done, Dax. Two things I noticed. She is obviously proud of the song as she couldnt suppress a smile. Secondly, its one of the few if only songs where a bass is prevalent.

Dax. We may be listening to this song sooner than you think. Just before Christmas Grace and her sister went to NYC. The reason for this was to make a music video for this song and to do a updated photo shoot. I f she did the music video, we will see it soon. Dax you reacted to this back in April. It was a live Instagram where she released short segments of songs she self produced and some segments from studio produced songs. I am sure this Studio produced song has been ready to go for a year now but then COVID got in the way. Also we all know about the Elvis sneer, enough already!!!!

Hopefully not long to wait now. Just yesterday she said no new music before her birthday (Jan 15) but soon after. In very short clip a few weeks ago she mentioned this will be her new single.

Good reaction Dax, thanks. I'm sure this new musical season will be a total success. Last year it was a little difficult due to the pandemic, but on the other hand it was good because it gave me time to work well with the songs that were already in progress and the new ones. The great difference in Grace's music, in addition to the incredible voice and great talent is the musical perception and the ability to compose with mastery, her work is incredible, congratulations and “success always” !!!

Trip on a stick where the wind blows. Life puts things in your way that you don't expect and it trips you up.

Dax. If Grace got her video done then we will see it soon. It might take longer for her EP to come out. She had planned to go to Nashville and LA to do studio work. Let’s hope she gets some of this done. She has school coming up at end of January.

When I heard the 1st part of the song, the word that came to my mind was "Slinky". I know that's probably not the right word but that's
all I could come up with. I think this song could potentially wreck her slow build idea. This song could accidentally become a
huge hit!! Can hardly wait to hear the full version. Have a great day Dax.

Dax, this song is the single she is dropping on the same day as the release of volume 2. I love just the small snippet of what you reacted too. If this is the sound of the volume 2 album, this is going to be incredible. Great reaction. Love this, I will meet you on Patreon on Jan 21st.

In another reaction video of this song-which unrelated to this-I have been humming to for the last couple of weeks-that reactor wrote out the lyrics of in the description-which was way longer and more complete that this clip. All that brings me to this convoluted opinion; I found the written lyrics wrong-he misheard one crucial line "You win a mil" etc etc. This can only be self explanatory. This song is about Graces journey and nothing else. Please tell me if I am hallucinating.

I have never waited so eagerly for the release of an album as I am for Letters Vol. 2. If the past is any indication, Letter Vol. 2 is going to contain music never heard before. This song is unbelievably good, as is Don’t Ruin The Movie, another song she previewed on the same Instagram post. I assume that Don’t Assume will be on Letters Vol. 2 but I hope that Don’t Ruin The Movie will also be included. BTW, you actually reacted to this Instagram post, including reacting to both of the aforementioned songs, on April 16 of this year. Growing old is a bitch, ain’t it? Peace.
