I don't think anything bad would happen to you if you went for a swim there, but I'll admit I wouldn't do it either. Back when I lived in the area, my preferred swimming spot was the Maarsseveense Plassen, which are just a short bike ride from the city.

Sure looks good, but the country, all of it, outside the cities as well, have never been as green as this because of months and months of plentiful rains. It's beautiful, but at a cost (to some - personally I prefer this tempered weather :)
