This is so true. Two years ago I bought a 2012 Lexus ES 350 with 75, 000 miles on it for $17, 000 and last year I bought an Acura RDX 2014 for $19, 000 with 49, 000 miles on it. I got two luxury cars for the price of one cheap new car. They have been repair free and a joy to drive.

I bought an 8yr old Honda CRV and to me it’s the newest vehicle I’ve ever owned, I will drive it till the wheels fall off.

6 months ago I bought 2015 Mercedes S550 with 80K miles for $28K, new today this same car would be $170.000, about a month ago I bought 2016 Porsche Cayenne Diesel with 70K miles for $27K .. my payment for the S class is around $540 and Porsche is $280 … I put some cash down, and I service and maintain my cars at my local mechanic shop … exp. had water in my headlight on my Cayenne, dealer asked $4500 to fix it, I took the headlight out, dried it with blowdryer, resealed it with silicone, and bought new ballast on eBay for 100 bucks, and voila …

I buy new as much as I can. I have been fortunate enough to have bought my last 5 trucks new. I want a warranty and I always feel safer with the maintenance also. I know exactly what has been done when.
Your points however are totally valid.

Thanks for your truthful narrative about the downside of complexity the clueless public doesn't understand.

But you need to be careful. If you buy a car that’s a year or two old they will only drop the price a few thousand dollars and by the time you add in higher interest rates on a used vehicle you might pay more than you would have paid buying it new.

I usually would go for a used car but with prices today it almost makes no sense. The car I am buying soon is Lexus IS 350. Used with 40k miles the car goes for 43k-45k, new it costs 48k so I'll go for new

I've always heard the most expensive vehicle is an inexpensive german car.

I drive a 2013 Acura TL SHawd with only 62K miles since new. .Just did the timing belt, water pump, spark plug service. Good again for another 80K.. This car has never had a check engine light let alone needed a tow in 11+ years. Also just installed a brand new JVC touchscreen stereo with handsfree Andriod Auto!. Let the idiots spend 60K+ for a daily driver.

I bought a 9 year old Lexus GS350 that has about every option for $15, 000. No rust, no crashes. I found the original sticker in the glovebox and it was $57, 000 new

There’s my car in your thumbnail!! I have a W204 C350 in the controversial Mars red paint colour!!

Currently bombing around in a 2013 Golf with 160k on it as my day to day, . Paid cash for it, the car owes me nothing. No payments on a depreciating asset, life is good, I sleep well at night!!

Absolutely agree with the new vs used issues! All of them. Haven't bought new in decades. Even from the depreciation aspect and existing interest rates, if needed for financing. Most do.

A terrific video, solid wisdom on pre-owned vehicles!
A month ago, I found a exceptionally clean loaded 2022 Nissan Maxima for 28K. It was 46K new It has the seasoned reliable 3.5 V-6 in many of Nissan's line up & it only had 34, 000 miles on it.
With my excellent 833 credit score I got the lowest rate on it, I'm quite happy with it!

Be careful about insurance though. I had a friend with a six year old Mazda 929. She dropped collision on her insurance and the next month we got hit by an uninsured driver and the car was totaled (they had to cut the roof off to get me out). We did get medical but she had to buy another car out of pocket. We couldn’t sue because like many uninsured drivers he had no assets

Excellent discussion. Your videos over the past few years have been helpful as I have upped my car experiences. Your information was helpful when I went and bought a '07 CLK 350 Cabriolet and the known engine issues. Great car, great buy! My most recent buy, a 2016 E400 Coupe Mercedes also a great buy. Only 32km on it, got it for $30k! Perfect mix of luxury and sport in a pillarless coupe!
