Ιδρύθηκε στα τελη του 12ου ή στις αρχές του 13ου αιώνα.Βρίσκεται 18 χιλιόμετρα απ το Αγρινιο σε μια βουνοκορφη ύψους 700 μ. με πανοραμική θεα. Το καθολικό ειναι απλή βασιλική. Το μοναστηρι επανδρώθηκε το 16ο αιωνα συμφωνα και με σιγιλλιο του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχη Ιωάσαφ το 1563.Το 1833 η μονή διαλύθηκε απ τη Βαυαρική Αντιβασιλεία κι η περιουσια της περίηλθε στη Μονή Προυσου.Το 1852 οι κατοικοι ζητησαν να επαναλειτουργησει η Μονη. Η απαντηση της Κυβερνησης ηταν μεν αρνητικη συνιστουσε δε στους κατοικους να προσεχουν τα μοναστηρια.Το 1610 ο Οσιος Ευγενιος ο Αιτωλος(προς τιμη του υπαρχει παρεκκλησι στη Μονη)μαθαίνει τα πρωτα του γραμματα.Η Μονη συνδεεται με ενα θαυμα στις 5 Ιουνιου του 1922 οταν η Παναγια απαλλαξε το χωριο του Καινουριου απο τη ξηρασια και καθε χρονο στις 5 Ιουνιου τελειται στη Μονη Θεια Λειτουργια.Εκει θησαυριζεται η θαυματουργη εικονα της Παναγίας της Ωραιοτάτης.Η μονή πανηγυριζει στις 23 Αυγουστου

It was founded at the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. It is located 18 km from Agrinio on a mountain peak 700 m high with a panoramic view. The catholic is a simple basilica. The monastery was manned in the 16th century according to the sigil of the Ecumenical Patriarch Joasaph in 1563. In 1833 the monastery was dissolved by the Bavarian Duchy and its property was transferred to the Monastery of Prousos.In 1852 the inhabitants asked for the Monastery to be reopened.
The answer of the Government was negative and he advised the inhabitants to pay attention to the monasteries. In 1610 Saint Eugene of Aetolia (in his honor there is a chapel in the Monastery) learns his first letters.The Monastery is associated with a miracle on June 5, 1922 when the Virgin Mary liberated the village of Kainourio from the drought and every year on June 5 a Divine Liturgy is celebrated in the Monastery.
