There seems to be some misconception regarding my views on the newspaper. You should definitely read the newspaper as regularly as possible. All I'm trying to emphasise is that you read it only from Mains / personality building perspective. For that, editorials are sufficient. There are things like summaries of ARC reports etc. that you can read for this purpose as well. Obviously at the beginning, it won't be possible to read newspaper editorials in 15 minutes. But that should be the ultimate goal.

So I guess the best strategy is-
1. Daily newspaper reading from Mains perspective- focus only on editorials for vocabulary and holistic views on issues
2. PT 365 - in detail for prelims

Normally I do not comment but people need to hear this.
Last year, maine har din newspaper padha aur PT-365 kiya. Newspaper ka kuch bhi yaad nahi raha. Aur jo current ke ques bane wo PT se bane. Aur mera galat kya hua? Economy ke ques aur Hokera (Harike). To realisation ye hua ki agar ye static wale 3-4 ques sahi ho jate to pre to nikal jata. Mains ke jo ques hai wo current based aate hain, but static portion se hi. Aur sab jab Mains-365 hi kar rahe hain to aap apna load kyun badha rahe ho? Over all of that, aap current static karne ke baad karo zyada samajh aayega, zyada retention hoga aur consolidated rahega. New aspirants don’r know how liberating it is to not have to fret on “are abhi monthly mag bhi karna hai, daily CA bhi karna hai.” Har din current nahi karne se sirf itna hi hoga ki aapka dost agar kisi issue pe opinion puchega to wo aapke pas nahi hoga but Remember, you will have the last laugh. Savdhan rahein, satark rahein.

My friend also reached interview 2 times without reading newspaper. And he got good marks in GS. Low in optional. Working Professional. Aspirants are too emotional for newspaper. It depend on how much time you have and also whether you like reading it or not.

i agree with you almost in every video. But have a different opinion here. There is a reason so many toppers suggest newspaper. Daily updates and newspaper act as a gel in your upsc prep. It broadens your understanding which cant be delivered by a magazine, mains answer writing becomes a cakewalk, forming opinions becomes easy, drastically improves the ability to read the options and grasp the question in prelims, makes you realise the boundaries of the upsc syllabus and what not. Also most importantly, it makes your journey joyful for u develop the appreciation for the things you read in static.

I also realised the same. But one of the benifit of newspaper reading was improved sentence formation.
