Retinol vs Retinaldehyde

I'm back!! Its been a while but I'm so happy to be back on YouTube! When deciding between a Retinol and Retinaldehyde it largely comes down to patient preference. Both retinoids are considered cosmeceuticals and are therefore lacking in many sound scientific studies that their retinoic acid derivatives like Tretinoin may have. The answer is to find which one works best for you. Also remember that both Retinol and Retinaldehyde are highly dependent on their formulation and the vehicle delivery systems that they are engineered with. Your skin may prefer one, or the other, or both!

I earned my Medical Degree from UC Irvine and completed my residency in Dermatology at UCLA. Upon completing my residency, I joined the full-time faculty at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and Professor in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. I then went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Dermatologic Surgery at UC Davis and Cosmetic Dermatology at the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of Northern California with world-renowned expert, Dr. Suzanne Kilmer. After fellowship, I was appointed the Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California where I remained active in clinical trials and have been on the forefront of the latest advances in aesthetics and dermatology. As an Orange County native, I love the SoCal community and currently enjoy being a Dermatologist in Newport Beach, CA.

My areas of expertise include cosmetic dermatology with a focus on injectable neuromodulators (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin), as well as dermal fillers (Juvederm, Voluma, Volbella, Vollure, Sculptra, Restylane, Belotero, and Radiesse). In addition, I travel nationally and internationally where I teach other physicians injection techniques and about the latest advances in dermatology. I am highly-trained in the use of lasers and energy-based devices to treat all aspects of photoaging, including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, brown spots and facial vessels. I offer a comprehensive approach to body contouring with the use of minimally-invasive procedures. In addition, I specialize in Dermatologic Surgery including Mohs micrographic surgery, blepharoplasty, skin cancer excisions, sclerotherapy, surgical earlobe repair and cosmetic tattoo excisions.

Welcome back! How do I introduce vitamin c into my skincare routine when I’m currently using Retin-A . I want the benefits of both but don’t want to overwhelm my skin barrier. Thx you

Hi! I’m curious if retinaldehyde in a 0.2% concentration is safe under the eyes? Or using it in combination with a moisturizing eye cream? I’m primarily trying to target my undereye wrinkles, but also have some darkness and hollowness (the latter I’m sure can only be fixed with filler). The product is Medik8 Crystal Retinal 20. I also have prescription tretinoin cream (Altreno) that I’ve used under my eyes multiple times, but I don’t know if that’s actually okay to do?

Thanks for always keeping it real with us! How long does the red dry peely last? Don’t want to over use Retinol & cause damage, if that’s a thing? 🤪 love you & can’t wait for your skincare to be available online!
