Good afternoon, Stevie, and so great to see you again with a new video…And believe me, with all my Sicilian relatives on my mother’s side, I knew what “malocchio” was at a very early age 😂

Madonna Mia, yous bring me back to my youth Stevie. All them words you share were spoken in my house. My cousins would call Aunt Vincenza to perform the maloochio ritual over a piece of clothing socks, t shirt you know and if it was for the baby a pacifier, lock of hair stuff like this ok then mom would get the oil, spoon n cup o water n say the prayer over that persons stuff. It’s a beautiful prayer for sure. At times mama would sense that evil eye on a family member n do the ritual, the phone would ring and the person or parent knew mom had done prayer w/o ever callin in the first place. This beautiful thing is for reals. Thank you Stevie for all yous do on keepin this alive. Lots of love your way brother.

When I was a boy I knew I could get away with more mischief when company was over. But I also knew it was time to stop when pop gave me the MALOCCHIO!

Ah, the malocchio! Stevie, you probably remember a hysterical episode of All in the Family where Archie's Italian neighbor, Frank Lorenzo, hits him repeatedly with the malocchio as retaliation for insulting his wife, Irene. Funny, funny stuff. Good seeing you, man.

Some Neapolitan countermeasures against the evil eye:
Making the horns gesture (better with both hands),
scratching your balls,
touching something made of iron,
touching keys (better if you have a very old one)
holding a clove of garlic,
taking a horn-shaped object or anything that resembles it, like a red chili pepper,
invoking Saint Gennaro...
then there are a whole series of phrases that one could say that I believe are untranslatable into English.

Each gesture is appropriate for a specific type of defense (it depends on the situation, whether somebody is just looking at you, saying something to you, etc.). In any case, the advice is to adopt as many countermeasures as possible at the same time...to be on the safe side.

the malocchio is a big deal in my family! Wear something red when you get a new car or jewelry to prevent the curse from a jealous or envious person ha ha.
