The Wright brothers are close relatives on my grandmothers side of family. She always said so but I didn't really believe it until I seen the tree and actual points that were documented

Wow...they did all that without a radio or podcast playing in the background while they worked. Nice!

I remember reading the Wrights wrote asking weather service the windiest places in the U.S. who replied back with weather station data from the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Amazing!

Ugh so simple to fix most problems! Sometimes the basics are the answer and also can learn from it. I feel if we actually applied it in our everyday life things would be much clearer! Love the admiration these people have for them!!!!

It is hard to believe that these two men changed the future so drastically. A 12 second flight that 50 years later would have us flying faster than sound. Maybe only Nicola Tesla changed the world so much. Tesla born in 1856 close to the Wright brothers, that were in some ways the 'Right' brothers.

Of course, the American TV series completely skipped the fact that controlled flight was invented by German inventor Otto Lilienthal some 20 years prior to the Wright Brothers. Lilienthal discovered the principle of wing steering. And the first motorized controlled flight was also by a German called Gustav Weißkopf on 14. August 1901. His first flight was 855 meters and he flew 4 times that day. It was printed in the Connecticut Herald News back in the days...

And to think that the last time I flew on a plane was October of 1989. And that's it. Never again. I almost pooped my pants.

Two ordinary brothers, they were anything but. Like most geniuses they didn't come from privilege and earned their place in history through hard work and perseverance with the mental capacity to solve complex math problems (high IQ). Thank goodness for such people because they've made our lives so much better.

3:23 “They patterned their machine after a particular bird, the Turkey Vulture, which was a very good soaring bird”. Yes, but they were also helped by the work of the Frenchman Louis Mouillard and his work L'Empire de l'Air which was translated into English by the Smithsonian Institution in the USA in its annual report of 1892 and reprinted in 1893 as "The Empire of the Air", his work was based on the flight of Vultures and proposed fixed-wing gliders for human flight. In 1897 his design was patented in the United States of America by Octave Chanute. Mouillard introduced control surfaces to the wing in his patent.

The wright bros were in corospondance with many people world wide.
There was a man in australia that showed.them some kite designs that flew well aka similar to box kite.
Shortly after that they made the flight.
Historical fact.

LOL! They dubbed over the sound of a multi-speed rear wheel over that spinning bicycle wheel in the Wright Brothers' workshop. :D Bicycles didn't make that rachety sound in those days.

What is generally regarded to be "The First Flight" of a powered airplane on December 17, 1903, was not actually a flight. It was a forward hover. This is because the Wrights’ “Flyer” did not rise higher than (out of ) ground effect and therefore did not actually fly. It hovered while moving forward. However, their improved and more powerful “Flyer II” was the first powered airplane to fly on 20 September 1904 at Huffman Prairie, Ohio when Wilbur flew it in the first circle of an airplane. Their two best flights were by Wilbur on 9 November and by Orville on 1 December, each flight making numerous circles, the best one exceeding five minutes and covering nearly three miles. The Huffman Prairie flights were all higher than ground effect.
For those who may not be familiar with “ground effect”, much information about it is available in many places, including an excellent article in Wikipedia.
