🙋 *Thanks everyone for watching!! I'd love to hear where you're at in your journey and some of the friction points you are having. Is there a specific service you can't remove? Why not? Let the community know below and hopefully someone can share some suggestions so we can all help each other here! VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET!* Last thing to say is this video isn't trying to argue *all* subscriptions are bad, just that *bad* subscriptions are bad. Ones that are designed to exploit users for little to no longterm gain for the user.

There is a phrase that I love:
"If buying is not owning, pirating is NOT stealing"

Glad I kept my large collection of DVDs and Blu Rays. Most games I own physical copies of as well. Cancelled all streaming services, don't miss them at all.

Great video. I've been an open-source advocate for 25+ years now. I never bought into Adobe or Microsoft products. I evaluated WIndows during the 9x era and decided I was going to get more features from Linux even if it wasn't as "pretty" as the competition of the time.

I despise subscriptions, and I'm doing what I can to eliminate the handful I still have.

A lot of people don’t know this but you can open a library to rent movies and tv shows for free. Seriously guys this made me quit all media subscriptions. You can do it anonymously by signing up to a “virtual card” online so you don’t have to go physically to a library to sign up for those people who don’t want to give their information.

*So many songs on Spotify are Greyed Out aka can no longer be listened to.*
Also, last week a song I'd listened to for months randomly changed.
Yes, the artist somehow uploaded a new version of the song to Spotify and it's quite different. Crazy.
Guess this is why it's best to own your own copies...

Pirate the stuff, done. i dont care if its illegal, because it is illegal too if the company can STEAL your purchased product. LMAO

Good Information thanks! I have started buying movies, books and music (though I have quite a few of each of these already) to own them, I split the cost on some with my sister and we share at least while we can. Subscriptions will never get cheaper they will only go up then what does one do. Owning original when possible is the best way.

The ones that ask you to pay yearly to get further updates usually don't disable your program of the versions you already have. I think that's a fair compromise and works for certain applications.

The saddest thing is that now, there are people all *proud* about paying countless subs, as some sort of unlocked special power, unlike those antediluvian PC users with their ugly local files 🤔

Great video, as always! You just reminded me that I have some subscriptions to cancel. Shared with a few friends.

I don't even need to own movies anymore all I need is a library card.

I know not everybody can do it but if you get the chance, a premium tv + Blu ray player is well worth it, for those extra £’s I don’t I’m now saving ac Tom but spending the equivalent on physical media as I would have renting/buying & its buyers market right now
My player upscales beautifully to 4k Dolby vision with ANY DISC (as long as its Blu ray) so if I can’t get it afford a 4k, I’m all covered
Seriously, it’s worth it, I often pick up 2nd hand for £1-3 & it’s been worth the extra tax for the initial outlay of the equipment

I dont get how so many people fall for these traps to begin with. I guess it's good because they keep the economy going but I don't pay anything for ... anything subscription based. Way too much free entertainment already exists on youtube and other parts of the internet to bother with paying for it.
