Notice only remote workers. Cuz there are no jobs there.

It would take a lot more than $12k to get me to move to West Virginia. lol

People are affected by inflation far more quickly than they are by a stock or property market crisis because it directly impacts their standard of living. The current level of negative market sentiment is not surprising. To survive in this economy, we urgently need your assistance. The ETF/Equity market continues to fluctuate. My portfolio of $370K is laid bare in ruins

Oh yeah, locals are thrilled their home value and therefore property taxes are rising, which is why we didn't interview any of them.

Beware there's a reason the state has to pay people to go there

Did no one learn from what happened to Colorado? Everyone and their mother moved there over the past 15 years and now it's as expensive as NYC. Don't ruin the rest of the country.

At a time when most rural residents don’t have access to doctors or hospitals, good luck with that.

Please don't. we were paying $300-$700 for 1 or 2 bd
Then more people came during the pandemic and bought up houses, and we started seeing more developments in our small town due to the increase of population and spending.
Rent here now is $800-$1100 for a studio and $1200-$2600 for 1 or 2bd.
Average minimum wage starting:
$7.25 -$16.00

Most people i know where i live have 2 or more roommates.

And you telling me small town mayors want to pay remote workers ( who, let's be honest, didn't need the 12k ) from cities to move there for just 1 or 2 years?

You couldn’t pay me to move to WV. I wonder if they tested their water when they moved. WV has some of the most contaminated aquifers in the country.

Great idea. Pay upper middle-class people to gentrify poor states and make the poor people there poorer. Even red state government is ignorant. This happened in Florida in the last 4 years. In 2020 you could buy a home making $68k now in 2024 you need $120k. But the median wage in Florida is still $68k. Good job.

Also a Marylander considering making the move to WV but coming from such a diverse place to one that’s the opposite has me a bit apprehensive

WV is beautiful but the public schools are well below the national average.

these incentives are not that much when you consider how much money it costs to actually move your belongings

WV is ranked one of the worst states for education. It comes last or close to last place in reading, math and SAT scores. Moving there with children would be a form of abuse.

Americans coming from a place of scarcity, not enough to share, bad will towards other Americans who are struggling etc. sad state of affairs.

First, Tusla, Oklahoma City, and Indiana all just happen to be in tornado alley, no thanks! It's not worth $5k -$12k to relocate, and then you don't even get the total amount at once. Let's not even talk about WV. Just go online and take out a personal loan 🤣

12k wont cover the costs to move for most households

This is not new. Nurses have been offered sign-up and relocation bonuses up to 20k to move and work in small town even as far back as 18 yrs ago.

When these places can demonstrate they can genuinely, authentically welcome and accommodate a sizable population of racial minorities, then I'll reconsider my judgement, but otherwise I'm very apprehensive about the inadvertent consequences that could arise from these programs that may result in further polarization of American politics and racial relations. But that's just me...
