The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its air force and navy have conducted hundreds of strikes since Saturday night on targets across Syria.

The IDF said these strikes have taken out an estimated 70-80% of Syrian strategic military assets, from Damascus to Latakia.

Earlier, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it had documented more than 310 strikes by the IDF since the Syrian government was overthrown by rebels on Sunday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Syrian rebel group that ousted President Bashar al-Assad, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, that Israel would "respond forcefully" if they allow Iran to "re-establish itself in Syria".

He has previously expressed a desire for peaceful ties with the new Syrian government, and cast its interventions as defensive.

The Kurds are the largest nation in the world without a state, oppressed by Iran and Turkey.
Why do hypocrites who shout "free Palestine" not shout "free Kurdistan" ?

Condolences for the BBC. They are going through a difficult time right now. With Hamas, Hezbolah, and Assad defeated, they are losing all their friends and co-religionists.

Israel is securing Israel - with the disarray in Syria at the moment, Israel could take more land but why just stop at the Golan Heights buffer zone?

Maybe it has something to do with British English, but I find your guests use of the word "taken" when referring to the Golan Heights in the 1967 war, to be extremely offensive, like Israel has taken a lollipop from a child.

The Arabs started a war in 1967 by using intimidation (closing the Straits of Tiran, threatening to send the Jews into the sea, etc), Syria joined Egypt, they fought Israel and they lost, in particular they lost territory. Nothing was "taken", it was fought over, and won by Israel. If you don't want your territory "taken", don't start f**ing wars. Same with West Bank and Gaza. When armies win and gain territories, they don't give it back, that would be insane. However, Israel has succumbed to international pressure and accepted land for peace if the Arabs want their territories back. Call Israel when you're ready to talk peace.

So Israel should abandon positions to be replaced by...? The UN proved useless at stopping Hezbollah from moving south of the Litani in Lebanon. It is not an escalation. It is a prudent act of maintaining peace and order.
