This IS SO AWESOME!! I'm becoming an Engineer and it is so cool to see there are a lot of people out there making videos of people messing around with all these weird things and making stuff out it! Keep up the good work!

Amazing project. Update the prices, 3d pens are even cheaper now

Epic as! Recently been thinking along the same lines so I did up an eBay shopping list of all the 3D Printer bits I could find for super cheap - hotends are actually available as low as 10 bucks (e3d clones) and you could use a bowden style design so there's less weight on the cdrom drives. Those 3D Pens are getting so cheap and nasty, I was at least expecting at tiny geared stepper in there!

Nicely done! It's not anything I would attempt to build but this gives real good illustration of the basic workings of a 3D printer. Thanks for sharing!

Haven't seen all your videos yet, but if you haven't tried it yet, how about a Cheap 3D Camera?

Hey! I was wonder how I could hook up an extruder and hotend to the arduino? And how to control it all with Grbl? Any help would be much appreciated.

Much better than the way I was going to do it. My plan was to pretty much tape the pen to the CNC machine and turn it on manually when being used.

Tinker, there are much better sub $100 plans out there. Most of which utilize $1.50 28JYB motors, $5 hot ends (i can attest that they actually work decently well, look into it), and as many 3D printed parts as possible, which aren't too expensive online. Look into the Cherry 3D printer on instructables, I estimated total cost to be around $80 from within the U.S. (original plans are in europe and utilize a few local resources). This is a much more realistic printer for people to make and very closely resembles a higher quality prusa. The downside is mainly the speed due to the small motors, but all in all, you can size it up to a 6"x6"x6" build volume and use regular slicer programs such as Cura to run it.

holy balls it works :o
wasn't expecting that :D

Would really love to see a sub 300$ ( or just generally a cheap ) DIY CNC machine with an actual spindle capable of aluminium.

maybe old printers / scanners ? idk

on ebay u can buy an extruder for like $30

It worked ! I like it. I have a CNC router, I can just clamp a 3D pen right next to the existing spindle.

Nowadays A cheap hotend can be had for around 15 dollars, Im guessing at the time this video was created it was different thought. It's cool to look back and see affordable ways ppl were able to 3d print

ok, looks good, the line looks pretty thick I guess that's down to the 3d pen.

I'm gonna have to get harvesting parts.
