Haiti Starts the New Year With Assassination Attempt

Haiti rung in the new year with several of the same characters and mayhem from the previous year, stating with what Prime Minister Ariel Henry called an assassination attempt by “bandits and terrorists” on his life.

The assassination attempt occurred days after Haiti celebrated its 218th anniversary on Jan. 1 of its independence, which its people acquired through an epic struggle for freedom and the inalienable rights of human beings, without distinction, to live free.

Saturday was to be a day of commemorating the island's national independence, celebrating its heroes and leaders from past.
