Should You Buy the Commander Decks from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms?

Let's look at the new Commander decks coming out with Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. As a huge fan of EDH, I am always looking to build new decks and enjoy the new mechanics or gameplans that we get with each new set. MTG AFR has some pretty fun looking decks, with new cards that look solid as well. However, with each new MTG set brining new commander decks with it means we have a TON more options than the previous single EDH decks release a year.

So, with that I am being more selective in regard to which decks I am willing to buy. In this video I'll review each deck, the new cards, reprints, and gameplan for each. With these decks I think they look fun, they can be great decks to jump into certain archetypes or color pairs.

My playgroup is doing a league where four of us start with the precons and slowly upgrade them over 10 weeks. It makes it easier to justify buying new precons

that wand of orcus might be that dockside extortionist card its a old gnaw bone but for zombies yes I get it has a total mana cost of 6 but when there are cards that let you play equipment off the top of your deck and auto equip or remove the overall equip cost well then its just damn that's a lot of zombies

They should make better tribal cards that aren't angel or dragon focused. We have enough insane dragon and angel cards.

With this batch of decks, the only ones I plan to get are the aura/equipment and dragon decks, on the fence about the other two.

Great breakdown! My friend picked up all 4 today and we ran each one. Despite precons being a little slower, the matches were solid and it was a good time. I was surprised at the ability of the Rakdos deck to ramp (faster than Gruul??? What???) but they played well out of the box.

The commander decks are much better than the dual planewalkers decks. Wizards 2 per sets should be fine. I cant keep Up.

I won't pick up any of these decks cause they are too similar to decks I already have (except the dungeon one). I don't agree in regards to the value. I think it's at a sweet spot for new player to build their collection without being so valuable that they all get snatched in the first few hours they are available to purchase. That being said, it seems like wizard is always reprinting the same cards in these precons. It would be nice that they diversify a tiny bit

I picked up the Aura of Courage deck right now because looking through them originally, it was the only deck that resonated with me. Plus I don't have an Equipment themed deck yet. I may pick up the Dragon deck or the Dungeon deck later on as they also interest me too. Not the exile deck though, the exile gameplay doesn't appeal to me.

I agree there are no dockside extortionist level cards here but it would be unhealthy for the game to get things that powerful often. I personally would like to see these decks without any reprints at all in the future though. We should stop reprinting cards so often. It creates a very unhealthy secondary market. Reprinting fabled passage or heroic intervention three or four times a year was a very bad call imo

I just discovered this channel and I adore how much you go into "should you actually buy this?", took a very impersonal approach and simply saw the cards as meh. Which I can relate to.

I like the rakdos one. Lot of chaos and the exile treasure theme is something new for me. Also, i dig that legendary devil.

It's very easy to decide whether you need to buy a starter deck or not. Just choose the cards you need from each deck, sum up their market value, and if it exceeds the deck price, then buy it!
I am buying only Aura of Courage, since I want a lot of cards from it, and nobody is going to sell me Galea :) Even though I already have Heroic Intervention and Sword of the Animist, both are great cards, and I plan to trade them for something good. Also, I'm pretty sure that many of the cards from the deck will increase in price soon. Song of Inspiration will be a staple in the life-gaining decks, Sram is a staple of all Aura/Equipment decks, Imprisoned in the Moon is a great universal removal that Blue really lacks - and all these cards cost less than a dollar now.
I am not buying other decks simply because I can't afford them all :)

If these were cheaper ones, I'd buy all of them, but since they are not, I'd buy two I guess... Dungeons of Death and Draconic Rage (but I'm on fence with the second option... I'll see how it plays first, because my friends will pick some of the decks too)

Grabbed the dragon and equip decks mainly because of a series of cards i actually don't own. Additionally i'm a sucker for dragons. Still have my c17 draconic domination deck lol

Might just pick up some singles. Some sweet cards that can go into my other decks fairly well

I got all the decks. The dragons are strong, planar portal is my favorite but it is weak, the aura is okay but whiffs a lot. I havent opened the dungeon one.
