Cruises are different than other types of vacations, and this includes what you should not bring on a cruise. All cruise lines have rules about what things are not allowed on cruise ships on embarkation day, and can be confiscated.

Had a real surprise on my last cruise. I got called down to the “naughty room” to go through my cosmetic and miscellaneous suitcase. At first, no one could find the offending item. One of my shampoos had one of those anti-theft labels. It turns out that it wasn’t properly disabled when I left the store, so it kept up a silent alarm. Everyone laughed and I got to keep my shampoo

Celebrity Cruise allowed me to bring a dive knife that I surrendered to crew when I arrived and they gave it back for each use on a private diving excursion in the Caribbean. A dive knife can save your life, so the crew was very understanding. I'm now loyal to Celebrity for this accommodation.

My hubby works nightshift and has gotten accustomed to using a fan for white noise so he can sleep. Apparently, the cruise line didn’t like that and confiscated his bag. Lesson learned — sound machines from now on. 🤷‍♀️

I haven't been on a cruise yet, but I will start to pack in a month or 2. I'm starting lists now. From my understanding, under no circumstances are you to bring any kind of power strip. Rather or not it's surge protected.
