Why Britain's $ 2.2 Billion Astute-Class Nuclear Submarine Is Its Most Dangerous Naval Asset

The Astute-class submarines are the largest, most advanced and most powerful attack submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy, combining world-leading sensors, design and weaponry in a versatile vessel.

In the first part of 2012, they proved their ability to prepare and launch Tomahawk missiles, successfully firing 2 missiles from the Gulf of Mexico and accurately hitting the targets on the test range in Northern Florida.

In addition to it's technology the thing that makes these vessels the most dangerous is the highly capable and well-trained crew inside them. Makes me proud.

If there's one thing the British know it is the sea

This is one beautiful boat. I like how large it is which means fewer cramped spaces. Being on such an advanced submarine is probable the safest vessel on earth. Submariners are famous for saying, "There are two types of ships, Submarines and targets." US Navy 1983-90

Without doubt one of our greatest military assets. Wish we had a more coherent build strategy so Barrow didn't go from boom to bust. We need 10 minimum but preferably 12 for all theatre coverage.

Such a bad-ass sub. Glad it’s on NATO’s side. The UK showed the value of subs in its conflict in the Falklands. Their prowess allowed control of the surrounding seas. I just wish that more of them would be built.

The cost overruns are mainly the fault of the MOD, they keep putting back build dates. They then expect the cost of materials to stay the Same. Skilled workers are laid off and made redundant as a result, which means when the project restarts there is a shortage of Labour.
The bean counters don’t realise that subcontractors won’t wait around forever.

A world class sonar with a range of 5000 km, dam that is an absolutely insane range! They could fire torpedo's / missiles and come back in time for tea!

Say what you want about Britain it’s navy is getting modern and bulky

With hindsight (always useful!), Australia should've found the confidence to say, "Add 3 boats onto the production-run for us"; they'd probably have them deployed by now.
