Castlevania Symphony of the Night running at full speed on the SNES Classic

In my Will it Run video I recently published for PS1 games, Castlevania Symphony of the Night was running at about half speed. Because of how great this game is, it didn't sit well with me. So I took a closer look and I found this workaround to have it running at full speed!

Probably the best PS1 game ever...only Res.Evil series might be a rival!

Thank you, Patton! These videos are fantastic. I'd like to put in a request for the arcade version of Paradious. Have a great day!

Its because PAL is 50hz and NTSC is 60hz (50fps vs 60 fps). This will affect all games made to run at 60 fps, games that are meant to be run at 30 fps will be unaffected.

NTSC and PAL respective speeds are related with their frequency, one being 60 HZ and the other one 50 Hz, in short, because the wavelength of 50 hz it's slower, whenever you run a PAL designed rom/iso on a NTSC system, it will run slower.

Now just change the music to SNES SoundFont versions of the music and everyone would think it was always on the SNES.

I want to see if someone put Rondo of blood onto this.

I suspect that the iso you got was from a PAL region (if all other games run normally).

Hey Patton I've got the game running but the version I'm playing seems so much more pixelated compared to what I'm seeing on your video? I've played about with the settings in retroarch with regards to aspect ratios and such but to no avail. Do you have any tips or hints to get a less pixalated picture?

only problem for me that is putting me off is the lack of shoulder buttons.

Do you have any tips for Mame2014 games? I want to play the Namco Classic Collection Volumes 1 & 2, but they run really slow. ☹️

How come those huge wolves only take one hit. They seem a lot more menacing.

Now that the video was solely focused on your gameplay video, I could see and hear exactly what you were talking about. That's so odd your RetroArch isn't holding it as NTSC. Mine does which is why I suppose I never noticed an issue.

I put SotN on my SNES Classic a few weeks ago and I didn't really do anything special. The only thing that comes to mind is, when using the eboot method I brought the compression down (because with USB-Host we now have virtually unlimited storage space so why bother) to level 2. Could it be the iso I downloaded? I remember the one I have had two bin files in it - one quite large and one decently small. I'll have to dig through my history to recall where I got it from.

I'm not sure how you're getting this to run so smoothly. Any PS1 games I try to run have horrible stuttering of video and audio. Setting it to NTSC doesn't make a difference. All other cores I've tried don't do this (snex9x, picodrive, mednafen pce and sgx, genesis plus gx, nxengine, etc.) Any suggestions? Is there a setting I'm missing, or are all of my isos messed up somehow?

, Maybe you need us/jpn version of the game to run ntsc as default?

Do we know how much stress this puts on the SNES mini? I don’t want mine to break down earlier than expected.

My SNES Mini is more or less a Castlevania Library, and now this video i will add this gem on there. for some reason the game boots in Pal dispite regions set to NTSC? strange.

You should try the new PSP core for the SNES mini.
