"Lifeblood"

You ever cling so closely to someone
that everyone else
feels like an in-between conversation
until you can see Them again?

the way that work is
an in-between
dull, numb, null

it’s hard to live in
the in-between times.

but then you finally get to see Them again!
time begins and ends as quickly.

but
it doesn’t end for Them
because They know They’ll see you again;
you’re not Their lifeblood
the way They are yours

They enjoy the in-between times
even longing for them when you’re together.

ouch.

how does my philosopher
not get it:
why waste a second
from our bliss?
why return to some other
mindless indulgence
in the abyss?
when this
is real

stay with me.
WANT to stay with me.
why don’t you want to stay with me?
