Blender for Scientists - How to Make Simple Polymers in Blender

Anyone who studies polymers comes across the "beads on a string" description at some point. This tutorial covers how to quickly a simple polymer (though it could also be used to make a necklace or something similar) and how to animate it easily to get some "random motion" without playing with physics. This tutorial is just the tip of the iceberg and if you wanted to explore copolymers (block, alternating or random), it would be very easy to setup any of those using extra particle systems and vertex groups.

The quick particles add-on featured in the video for those who are interested:

I was searching how to set particles on my polymer.

Thank you very much it adds fun to making figures.

Hey great video, I would like to do a comb polymer micelle, with a backbone like here and two side chains, one facing inside and one outside. I got close through your lipid micelle video so that you have individual balls with two chains facing in opposite directions but i cant get then a connected back bone chain. And it looks like a lipid vesikel, and not like a polymer. Do you have any advise or ideas?

Great tutorial. I was wondering if you could make a turtorial about generating block copolymer self-assembly structures

I'm using 4.2 version, cannot find 'add curve extra objects' in preference so that I cannot also use noise 3D curve, any solution please?

loved the tutorial. One of my Phd students has made an add on to help make polymers. If he shares it publicly I'll let you know too just as an FYI.

hmm having problems install the add-on in Blender 3.0, it doesn't seem the quick particles add on appears after installing it from within Blender. EDIT: I was able to manually install the add-on however when activating, it gives an error, and so is currently unusable. Will there be any updates to your add-on to be used in Blender 3.0? Thanks!
