What Is Blue Origin’s New Glenn Landing Plan?

Blue Origin is in the process of manufacturing and testing various New Glenn hardware with the goal of launching for the first time next year. This next-generation launch vehicle has been under development for over a decade now and features a large design, payload capacity, reusable first stage, and other complex features. All of which have contributed among other reasons, to the extensive development of this hardware.

One particular area of interest for many has been the first stage downrange landing pad. In this case, as we have seen with the Falcon 9, certain missions require a landing platform in the ocean as the first stage doesn’t have enough propellant to return all the way back to land. In Blue Origin’s case, the plan for this process has changed quite a bit over time.

What started as a massive cargo ship meant to be converted into a mobile landing platform, changed to drone ships similar to SpaceX. This being said, following Blue Origin’s theme of keeping a lot of info to themselves, we haven’t heard practically anything on these platforms in a long time. Here I will go more in-depth into Blue Origin’s landing plan, the initial difficulties, progress, and more.

NASA acknowledged that in flying Escalade on New Glen next year they were taking on additional risk. That has got to be the understatement of the year.

Are they scaling up production now? I saw a rather small hall, filled with elemental parts and pieces. After 12 years, i must say: they have come far. Will they rent another hall to scale up horting of the parts now?

I really do hope New Glenn launches in 2024 for Mars. I am skeptical based on past lack of performance and secretive development.

Still going to have bad payload without a catch tower. Gona need to really dial in the cost of carrying the extra fuel to land and not destroy the legs, then cost and time to refurb. They’re designing something that’s already behind starship.

Its ironic that elon got his idea for a private space company from Bezos &Blue Origin even teased the sea landing idea before Spacex, but now every eloon stan and their mom thinks theyre copying spacex, funny how life works

To land a rocket you have to launch the thing.

Blue origin better just pray it doesn’t go bad on the first launch, it’ll be another 10 years of building

I'm not rooting against Blue Origin but lacking major accomplishments and success in 2024 they will lose ALL of their top talent to SpaceX who is hiring like crazy.

Considering that Blue Origin initially sued SpaceX for the barrage landing concept and lost, it demonstrates the difference in mentality at SpaceX for not suing Blue Origin for contracting with LAD Services for a "a nut and bolt copy of their previous SpaceX barges." It nice to see a company that isn't excessively litigious.

hmm.. With enough X SpaceX employees, New Glenn could be slightly less capable compared to Falcon heavy lol:) Must be nice to always go sideways on progress while relying on other younger companies creating roadmap to success:)
