The 2023 BMW iX1 is finally here. As its name suggests the all-new iX1 is an all-electric version of the next-generation X1 small SUV, which launched to high praise less than 12 months ago.

Needless to say, expectations are, therefore, high for the iX1, which has the all-conquering Volvo XC40 Recharge firmly in sights, alongside the Mercedes-Benz EQA and Lexus UX300e, among others.

So, in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis puts the iX1 through its paces to see if it offers the ultimate combination of value, style, practicality, performance and efficiency – including driving range.

Fair review I thought. I have one of these cars and it covers the pros and cons well, if anything I think Byron could have played up the handling performance a bit. And buying a Tesla every entered my mind. If I want panel gaps and shoddy engineering I'll buy a 1980s Renault. If people don't 'get' BMWs then this car is definitely not for you, best stick to something cheaper as you won't notice the difference and you really will be wasting your money.

This felt more like a paid ad by BMW than any review! The objectivity was low, if not non-existent. Real-world range is about 350 km, which is very poor, and yet nothing mentioned? Well presented and articulated, but disappointing as it wasn’t pragmatic or objective.

Interesting but the sales figures in EU is nothing to crow about

The design of the front seats is suspect. They could be wider to accommodate people with a slightly bigger body frame. Also, the headrests are angled forward and do not allow occupant to feel properly supported. Why was this not mentioned, as it spoils an otherwise well designed interior ?

I mean the upcoming Volvo EX30 is gonna leave this in the dust, plus available in the US (really important to me lol). Still. I love the design.
