Johnny Depp's Bat - Jackie Sparrow

Jackie Sparrow is a flying fox who recently met superstar, Johnny Depp, while he was filming in Australia.

Trish Wimberley from the Australian Bat Clinic introduced the pair whilst the latest ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ film was shooting near her rescue center on the Gold Coast.

Johnny expressed his love of bats and offered to sponsor the little one as it undergoes rehabilitation at the clinic, after losing contact with it’s mother during a heavy storm.

Extreme weather events are often damaging to flying fox populations causing many baby bats to be separated from their mothers, often via abnormally high temperatures or cyclonic winds.

Rescued bats in care at the clinic frequently remain for many months as they are prepared for their release back to the wild. The bat clinic takes in hundred of bats every year and is commited to education and conservation of bats.

I have loved bats since I was a very young child. Johnny Depp has always been a favorite of mine but since I know that he too loves bats just made him my number one.

Bats do a great deal to help in other ways as well. Example: I live in the Midwest of North America, and they eat TONS of mosquitoes every night. Ours don't scream, instead making a clicking sound. They are tiny with lovely faces as well. We put up bat houses to attract them. ; › Mia

They're beyond adorable! During warm summer nights, I sometimes get bats doing circles in my garden, going round and round. I will then stand silently pushed against my wall, too bad they're so swift and small, and in dusk it's impossible for me to film them.
Even as a kid I never understood why people are afraid of bats, other than maybe the ones that feed off of blood of livestock. But majority of them are insect eaters of fruit lovers.
