Im Zuge des Falles Blau, der großangelegten deutschen Sommeroffensive 1942, versuchte die Wehrmacht mit ihrer Südflanke der Ostfront einerseits die wichtige Öl-Stadt Baku um kaspischen Meer abzuriegeln, bzw. auch andererseits die Nordost- und Ostküste des Schwarzen Meeres unter Kontrolle zu bekommen, um somit eventuell einen Kriegseintritts der Türkei auf seiten der Achsenmächte zu forcieren.
Eine interessante Nebeninformation: deutsche Gebirgsjäger ließen es sich nicht nehmen, den über 5000m hohen Elbrusgipfel zu erklimmen. Die hier gezeigte Karte(n) bilden meines Wissens nach, keinen historischen Gefechsplatz ab.

During "Operation Blue", the sommer offensive of the Wehrmacht in 1942, german troops at these most southern exposed flank at the Ostfront to reach and more or less siege the oel-ressource city Baku at the one hand, and also to cut off the soviet territory around the black sea at the other hand. Last goal was set, that if succesful, propably the Turkey could go into war on axis side, if german troops would connect to the turkish border. An interesting side note: in the middle of heavy combat in the mountains of the Kaukasus, the german specialised mountain infantry climbed the top of the Elbrus mountain in sporty way, over 5000m high. The map here in the game, as far as I know, does not picture some real combat place.
